E-Class (W124) Mercedes-Benz W124 turns 30!

The Mercedes-Benz W124 is a range of executive cars made by Daimler-Benz from 1984 to 1997. From 1993, the 124 series was officially marketed as the E-Class. The W124 followed the 123 series from 1984 and was succeeded by the W210 E-Class (saloons, estates, rolling chassis) after 1995, and the C208 CLK-Class (coupés, and cabriolets) in 1997.

Don't expect showroom floor quality!

Rare colour for an E-Class. Is it me or was it mainly Japanese manufacturers who painted their cars white the 80-90s.

Those AMG Hammer W124 always looked smoking hot in all demon black.

Who said the W124 is not fun to drive and an old mans car!! You haven't driven these monsters.

This might be I am getting old but, if this thread proves anything, is that cars were cooler before.
They are one of those key moments in history, Brunos Sacco's, Paul Braq's are not born every day, professional tunings were born, talent everywhere, there was a great desire to live fully, do and try new things that proved to overcome time

Amazing video of a E500 getting detailing touches done. Just check the interior when they dismantle all trim pieces and you can understand why those older Mercedes models were brilliantly built. The wood trim looks like it is about 5 to 10mm thick and the trim fits together like a tight fit jig saw puzzle with no play.

It's nice, but it's one year short. The 1990 facelift did wonders for the car's looks inside and out, and made it far more luxurious.

The earlier models with black bumpers/mirrors and old pattern stripped MB-Tex seats looked alot more basic than the FL models that came out in 1990. I prefer the FL models as they had nicer body colour bumpers/mirrors and door lower panels and then the seats had the pleated soft leather and were softer and more comfortable than the earlier seats which were very springy and bouncy.

This 1990 300E is probably the perfect colour and interior spec.

What they did in that LCI with the bodywork was really innovative, "lining" the entire lower half of the bodywork!, which gave it that very modern, even more luxurious look and so current to this day, perfecting something that seemed unbeatable but without changing one cm. of the shape of the body,

I would like to see that detail in the LCI of a model from this decade.
One more proof that designers are designers for a reason.
