E-Class (W124) Mercedes-Benz W124 turns 30!

The Mercedes-Benz W124 is a range of executive cars made by Daimler-Benz from 1984 to 1997. From 1993, the 124 series was officially marketed as the E-Class. The W124 followed the 123 series from 1984 and was succeeded by the W210 E-Class (saloons, estates, rolling chassis) after 1995, and the C208 CLK-Class (coupés, and cabriolets) in 1997.
Yeah I saw that dent too. It's likely very expensive to make right.

Interesting topic. I’m almost certain that section of the bumper cover is plastic. I wonder if there’s some specialist repair treatment (heat?) available…

The bumper is plastic, but there is a chrome piece on top that may be hard to find at this point.

The W124 models came out with 3 different bumpers, side panels and mirror colour coding.

1985 to 1989 (1st models):

Black bumpers, side strips and mirrors. Orange indicator covering on headlights and rear lights.

The 500 E didn't have the standart body. It was widened by Porsche in order to accomodate the 5.0 l V8. The E420 in its turn had the standart body and was produced on the normal production line by Mercedes utself and that's why it was significantly cheaper.

What a beautiful car.......still.

Still one of the nicest looking modern Mercedes 4-seater convertibles. The 320E or 300E-24 were the models to have.

Actually....

Now even more so than ever. I badly miss these cars. This and the E36 cabriolet were dream cars for me in those days.

You can hardly call them modern anymore though. They're prime classics now.

Not only was their built quality (I'm talking about the MB obviously, not the E36) incredible for the time and for today, they were also quite good looking. The E36 coupe and cabriolet were a seriously good example of that!

Both vastly different cars in character. Unlike today where you can switch badges and no-one would notice. The Merc was the solid vault, the E36 the youthful sporty.

I learnt driving on a W124 300E (1986). That steering was hard.

The interior in this car is in amazing condition and the quality of the leather and wood looks so much better than the latest Mercedes models. This era of Mercedes from the 70s to the mid 90s is still the finest. They were built to perfection.

Fancy. I learned in a Golf IV
Lol that is still a smoothie to drive. I learnt in a Golf 1 lol. No power steering so it was flipping heavy at parking speeds a 4 speed manual Golf ball shifter and a tricky springy clutch. But it was a damn fun car to drive

Fiat 147, anyone?
Btw, that interior of the E-class so sophisticated and usable until today, is a convertible a classic to enjoy on weekends

This video has not just the C124 mini hammer but an incredible collection of pristine 1980s W201 Evo and C126 Koenig specials
