Because of the problems, Daimler intends to cooperate more intensively with other manufacturers and is close to an agreement with Ford and Renault-Nissan. "We are in promising talks with interested companies," a Daimler spokesman confirmed on request.
Through the cooperation, Daimler intends to increase the volume of the technically solid production-ready powertrain and thus reduce costs. It will now be developed further so that it can be installed in compact cars of the partners. Nissan may also use the B-Class front-wheel drive architecture. The Japanese have agreed for some time already to build their own compact model for the Infiniti luxury brand based on this architecture.
