SL-Class (R230) Mercedes-Benz SL-Class R230 Picture Thread

The Mercedes-Benz R230, introduced in 2001, continues the evolution of R129 with smoother body design and new peanut-shaped headlamp design. The fifth-generation SL-Class featured a 'Vario Roof' retractable hardtop. Production: 2001-2011.
Sorry to disagree with some chaps around here, but there was nothing wrong with the previous front-end. It looked absolutely sublime.

The new one in other hand...

:D

Given time it might grow on me, who knows. But so far, all I have to say is Oh dear... :eusa_doh:

The new front end is absolute winner. The old design was impressive indeed but this one gives it more aggresive stance and that's the approach MB will take on all the future models. So far I like it and I know that future models will give the competition something to think about. MB is back on track - it was never lost in the first place but they did have a lot of bad karma on their shoulders in the 90's and first years of 2000.

Having just purchased a 2008 SL with the AMG package one may think my dislike for the front (grill) is bias. Probably right to some extent:D But I had not even looked at the '09's because the pricing was not in my range. Once I got the fantastic deal on the '08 I looked at the '09 and like many features about it but my eye just does not fit the front end. I will probably grow to like it as time passes but the single chrome strip with the big star just looks wanting for a MB grill treatment.

^ Red looks great..
And it will look even better on the BS

I clearly remember the day that the FL SL came to GCF, and 8 out of 10 MB fans didn't like the new front (I liked it from the beginning)

Now, the SL BS.....it would look completely stupid with the four old round headlights and tiny grille....

That is true ....I thought the same thing when I saw the Black Series version.

Still, although I have grown used to it, I'm still not the biggest fan of this face lift. Having said that, the SL is still my favourite Benz ....and that makes it pretty close to being my favourite car currently in production :)

^ red suits the SL so well.

this is a fake pic, I think. The engine isn't on... Temp guage and fuel are at the bottom and it says the car is in park....

^its not fake..
When you turn the key .. the needles go back and forth before start..:D

Exactlly - I liked the design of the FL SL from day one and with MB people allways see the small picture - I think they where thinking of the AMG Black series from the day they decided to do a 2nd FL and they knew it would look really stupid with oval lights and the car just wouldn't be agressive enough.

Great pics!!! This is the same wheel package we get over here in the U.S., optional on the SL550.

Yep!! Those wheels are absolutely great looking. The are available with the sportpackage here in germany. :)

Great pics. Yet again the SL is my favorite Mercedes-Benz. I've been seeing them on the road around here lately too. A Benz with 9 lives for real.
