S-Class (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift

Added to Calendar: 01-29-26

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan. It replaces the W222 S‑Class which had been produced since 2013. Body Styles: W223 (standard), V223 (long), Z223 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach). Production: 2020- Model years: 2021-
The styling was largely the same, but the technology was going to be barely updated. They were basically betting on a huge push for electric vehicles and relatively stark drop off in ICE sales. It would've been more like the current GLE's first facelift.

Very interesting.

Obviously most other companies expected a big push for EVs as well.

I predicted this when the frenzy of electric vehicle investments began. Companies over-invested, and their strategies went awry, just as I expected. BMW acted rationally by remaining neutral. It optimized its existing product range and maintained it at the lowest possible cost.

I remember BMW sending 40 G70s to be used at an event. But it didn't really work out.

BMW and Toyota are just very shrewdly run companies. They both weathered the chip crisis well too.

Of the German manufacturers, BMW AG and it's board of directors played their cards best. Me, a former skeptic, is tipping my hat to them in recognizing a very difficult job done well. Alas, I cannot say this for the other German manufacturers. Especially M-B has left me disappointed. A company that has such a vast portfolio of innovative technological solutions, once pristine brand equity and an impressive roster of highly accomplished engineers, should be doing far, far better. As for VAG, Audi has simply disappointed on many counts. Porsche, although it's treasure chest of innovations is so extensive, it's brand equity seemingly invincible, has recently been appearing...simply lost somehow and not really quite clear of exactly where it is heading.

I think BMW did very well to avoid a slump in sales and shortage of chips during COVID, this one of the reasons their reliability rankings were up higher during the last 3 years of car ownership as they experienced less issues than other rivals with their infotainment systems and other electronic systems having glitches. Mercedes Benz was hit hard by the chip shortage and their reliability ratings have slumped due to the issues experienced during COVID.

I don’t understand how or why he’s here.

Mod team is full of people with an infinite patience. These weirdos that get banned from here for their insane obsession with a f*cking car company, should never been allowed to come back. They always start low profile but return to their tiresome ways after a while. Always the same story.

If a mod reads this, I would like to encourage you guys to consider being more strict with these people.

I think many of us get annoyed when these previous members who come back, start their same repetitive argumentative stupid tactics with their obsession with a brand etc. This then adds useless long argumentative posts to a thread which become irritating to look at when we get notifications for new posts. The mods should take some considerations to give strict warnings or penalizations of like 2days banning for these old members.

I suspect that in the very most cases, forum members participating in conversations, discussions, debates and full-blast arguments do not know each other personally and hence have never engaged person-to-person, face-to-face, eye-to-eye. Basically, faceless fingers typing on keyboards as a sole vehicle in order to transport thoughts, ideas and opinions. Making the effort to not let the conversation stray from automobiles/automotive issues (even though they can sometime become "political") is an effort well invested. After all, this is the common denominator. Let past conduct slide. People change-often for the better. Enbrace a bit more stoicism.

My 2 Euro cents.

But we could do a ZOOM-conference then for face-to-face contact :ROFLMAO:

Some amazing headlight tech on the new MOPH S-class.

The new light of the Mercedes S-Class Facelift

Smarter driving at night with next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT is now coming to the S-Class facelift
On dark roads or in difficult weather, the new DIGITAL LIGHT system in the S-Class immediately adapts to changing visibility conditions: with up to 40 per cent more illumination, sharper precision in bends and more light output, driving at night is even safer and less strenuous. The new S-Class now features the next generation of DIGITAL LIGHT with Micro-LED technology. A powerful chip is used in the light module, which increases the high-resolution illumination field by around 40 percent and significantly increases brightness. At the same time, energy consumption is reduced by up to half compared to the previous system. The headlight units themselves also conserve resources. They maintain the same customer experience, but their weight has been reduced by more than a quarter. This is thanks to the more compact micro-LED design and the use of a single control unit. All software modules are integrated into the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB. OS) and were mainly developed in-house.

Another major innovation is the dynamically swivelling ULTRA RANGE high beam, which no longer simply shines straight ahead, but adjusts its direction. The partial high beam, which is also available in the USA, now works even more reliably, as the detection of poorly lit road users has been further improved. Thanks to combined camera data and map information, the active cornering light reacts even more precisely to the course of the road.

The S-Class Maybach Facelift (world premiere at the end of March 2026) will feature golden ambient light in the headlights

DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function is available either as an option ex works or as a Digital Extra via the Mercedes Benz Store. In addition to the familiar projection functions for wrong-way driving and lane departure warnings, the S-Class now complements a new cold warning system in which a snowflake is projected onto the road. The bottleneck light has evolved into a narrow lane light that activates automatically on all road types when a reduced lane width is detected. DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function also communicates with the driver: the headlights and taillights react with a short light show when the vehicle is locked, unlocked or the engine is switched off. The animation function can be activated or deactivated via MBUX, with the "Digital Rain" and "Star Wave" light shows now available in a fresh design.

The new Digital Light is also used in the GLC EQ

Mercedes Benz has already tested this lighting technology for the S-Class in its new light tunnel at the Immendingen Test and Technology Centre, which was officially inaugurated at the beginning of 2025. Regardless of the time of day and weather, the experts there can evaluate the light distribution of future Mercedes Benz models under reproducible conditions from the customer's point of view. The more than 100-meter-long drive-through light tunnel has a true-to-scale country road with dotted centerlines and side markings – making it one of the longest facilities of its kind in the automotive industry.

It is interesting that the previous Digital Light worked with very small switchable mirrors. There were 1.3 million small mirrors per main headlight. The new-generation Digital Light in the S-Class facelift, on the other hand, uses 25,000 micro LEDs (i.e. now without mirrors).
