Edit: It’s apparently not the S-Class. I can’t tell what it is though.
 
You're absolutely right!

Back in the '80s and '90s, black surfaces were a sign of inexpensive, basic models.
 
The area that frames the grill/shield does look a bit odd. Not ugly...just odd.

I suspect that the smallish glossy black blemish on the upper part of the front fender is some sort of sensor or camera.
Typically they'd have graphics that line up the sensor block with the grille. So that image looks odd. Also would be surprised if they rolled with a fully blacked out classic grille. Surely they'd have the cross bars chromed out?
