Revised S65 AMG

Probably the last we'll see of this particular model. The W222 probably won't include such a un PC V12.

Well I'll just be interested to see if they've changed them.

I like the side mirrors on the chop ....much better :usa7uh:

I always loved & prefered the S-class over its competitor. My decisssion got more strong now, especially with the unvieling of new 7. The impression of the FL S-class give more elegance to S, over 7. I love it. :usa7uh:

True. The SL65 BS is pretty much the grand good bye.

For the SL, yes (because it`s going to be replaced pretty soon).. maby not for the S65. This engine might be around for another 2-years or so until MB comes up with a replacement of some sort. The engine won`t be an AMG modified Mercedes engine like this one..

I`m pretty sure AMG might is working on that already.

God only knows what it will be.

Let's hope that they will introduce some new engine in the S65 or CL65 because the V12 is pretty much a dinosaur right now.

Thought it would be a good idea to post uncle Huckfeldt's facelift impression which is a fair representation of what the front end will look like:

I took the liberty of removing the double fogs as well.

The 7-er's design is abit boring compared to the S-classe E.g the roof on the 7-er is boxy compared to the smooth flowing line on the S-class oh ans also the bumpers, look how plane the 7-er bumper is to the S-class:usa7uh:

The 7er is also smooth in its own way, there are lines that flow from the healights to the realights and in between the door handles. The front bumper isn't "plain", its simple and it still looks elegant, that is the whole point of a 7 series. You don't put an aggressive bumper on it to make it look sporty. Both the S class and 7 series are excellent cars in their own way.

As for the S class facelift, I like the headlights and the rearlights from what I have seen from the spyshots and CGI.

Yes, the 7er has a lot of great flowing lines, but then looses it in places:eusa_doh: and the bumper is elegant, but still a bit plain for the front of that car, the front looks awful I that picture maybe it's the angle or maybe because it's along side a a better designed car:usa7uh:

In 2009 Mercedes will launch its revised S-class, and while the tweaks on the surface will be minor, the changes under the skin will be major. Our spy photographers have caught both the regular and AMG versions of Stuttgart’s limo testing in the USA, and the big news is that the S-class will be available as both petrol and diesel hybrids by 2010. The latter, the oil-burner, will be the first four-cylinder current-generation S-class.

Right, let’s get these minor visual changes out the way first…

All revised S-classes will get a new front grille, tapering to a point as per the facelifted E-class. But the tweaked front bumper will take inspiration from the forthcoming all-new E-class, adopting more geometric lines and abandoning today’s car’s gentle curves. At the back there are new LED rear lights and a new rear bumper.

And the tweaks to that gangster-spec AMG version?

The same again, with a new rear bumper that sees the quad exhausts jut out beneath the rear valance, rather than through it. There are also fewer creases on the sides of the rear bumper.

More chrome brightwork is visible around the glasshouse, while the side sills are simpler, doing away with the flowing twists on the current AMG models.

And this hybrid malarkey?

All S-class engines should get mild tweaks, but come mid-2009 Merc will launch its S400 Hybrid. It’ll use a 275bhp petrol V6, and combined with a hybrid module, produce a total of 295bhp and 277lb ft.

With the hybrid module assisting acceleration, the S400 will reach 62mph in 7.3 seconds, then top out at a limited 155mph. With the hybrid system also allowing stop/start running in traffic, and charging the lithium-ion batteries under braking, the combined fuel consumption will be 35.8mpg and the CO2 output a mere 190g/km. That mpg figure might not be better than the current S350 (36.7mpg), but the C02 figure is (242g/km).

That’s not good enough for me. I want to be greener…

And so Mercedes has the answer for you, with the S300 Bluetec Hybrid. The latest-generation 2.1-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel will provide the base, and with a hybrid module the headline figures will be 221bhp and 413lb ft. That 413lb ft is more than the current S500 or S320 CDI.

But the figures you and your wallet care about are the 52.3mpg and 142g/km CO2. Pretty spectacular, considering the S300 Bluetec will still do 8.4 seconds to 62mph and 150mph flat out.

Add in the Bluetec system where the AdBlue liquid cuts NOx emissions by around 80 percent, and the S300 Hybrid looks very clean. It just needs to deliver the figures in the real world now.

What’s next for Mercedes and the S-class?

After the S300 we’ll see an S400 Bluetec Hybrid, but that’s not until post-2010. Meantime, Mercedes is working on a more powerful hybrid module producing 60bhp, up from the current unit’s 19bhp.

Wow! If that is combined wouldn't that put it in Prius territory?

odd that this car doesn't have the updated sideview mirrors or the any changes to the headlights?

I've heard rumors that the newt generation Prius will be bumping 80mpg

If these are the changes I don`t like them.. too plane looking without the rear diffuser and designer side-skirt. Plus where are the larger mirrors that are required for euro-models. I have my questions that we are looking at the finnished product. If this is it, it`s a step back.

I`m going to hold my final judgement for the moment.

I hope your right bum-man.

Why the heck would thay reveal the AMG version now when the normal f/l S-Class hasn`t even been revealed yet.

F%$#, didn`t we just get spy pics of a camoed F/L S65 last week?

Yeah, it appears all that's being tested are a new engine and distronic plus BUT the car itself is the current body IMO.

Clearly visible are the new front skirt and fog lights, the differently sculpted bumper, the new mirrors with the more elegant side flashers. Also new will be the modified layout of the headlights: while the flashers will move to the bottom of the units, LED daylight driving lamps will be fitted to the outer edges of the front lamp units. A slightly re-designed rear bumper and taillights without the coloured 'metal' stripes will round the facelift. Engines, however, will be left unchanged.
