E-Class (W211) Mercedes-Benz E-Class W211 facelift. Spy pic thread.

The Mercedes-Benz W211 is the third generation of the E-Class range. Made from 2002 to 2009 in sedan/saloon (W211) and station wagon/estate (S211) configurations – replacing the W210 E-Class models and superseded by the Mercedes-Benz W212 in 2009. Production: January 2002 – April 2009 (sedan), February 2002 – June 2009 (station wagon).
I agree w/ the sport package comment. We need more than just a nice set of wheels and s sideskirt and bumper here and there, they need to be more comprehensive and original than current offerings. MB product planners have some real work to do, been half stepping for too long.

Needs a AMG kit, looks bland and similar to current.

the US Sport package also offers a Suspension change...plus the rims, kits, tail pipes and the AMG Rims....

But at $4,950 it costs way too much. I've only seen this package on like 2 E's since this package has been available. That is S-Class AMG package money, too much for an E-Class. The Sport package that the European markets have is what the U.S. market should have, it concentrates on making the car acutally drive sportier compared to just making it look sportier like the U.S. package. I love the way the U.S. package looks, but it serves no purpose other window dressing. With cars like the 550i and M45 offereing real sport Mercedes needs to at least offer a real sports package in the U.S. that actually transforms the E into a sportier machine. BTW, the suspension changes aren't listed on MBUSA.com.

What does the Euro one offer?

I think the bulk of that price comes from the AMG Rims themselves, and for filling MB Execs bank accounts...

But what else would they offer? Better steering and more handling upgrades? What would they change?

ALso, sorry for all the open questions, but how would they make the steering more precise and "sporty?"

E class is very good looking indeed. I was a little worried they might RX8 the E like they did the S but it doesnt look like it.

But why don't they just ditch those damn electronic brakes now and put conventional ones in the FL model.

The European sports package actually changes the suspension, steering and I think the brakes. The U.S. package is just cosmetic with a marginal increase in sportiness provided by larger wheels/tires.

They could easily tune the steering for more response and feel by using a faster rack like they do in the CLS. They should even go one further on the Sport package for the 2007 E making it a real sports sedan.

Why? That is totally not what an E-class is for! Imagine all the loss of taxi sales when they go to something more comfortable than a sporty E j/k :usa7uh:

The American AMG Package modifies the suspension...but I do agree that they need to change the steering and handling more, hopefully w/o sacrificing the comfort of the car.

Well I'm talking about modifying the basic E to be sportier. I mean the optional sports package should have some real guts to it. Mercedes is capable of this, I mean look at the optional package for the CLS55 AMG. Real sports sedan stuff. The package would be optional. Trust me I would never want them to make the basic E-Class all hard riding and what not.

Are you sure about that. I remember seeing a "Sports suspension" was part of that package, but now on MBUSA it doesn't mention that anymore. Either way at almost 5K the package is too expensive. With other options you'd pay over 60K for a E350.

M

The E350 has it listed as part of the AMG Sport Package.
· Sport Suspension
· AMG-Design Front & Rear Aprons
· 18" AMG Wheels
· Dual Chrome Exhaust Tips
· AMG Sport Bumpers

Thing is, its not on the E500, so we are both sort of right.

Either way, a more dynamic E-Class is all Id really ask for...and the new V8 muwahahaha...better yet, the 6.3L AMG engine :D

Oh I must have missed that, but still that is overpriced for what you get. They need to concentrate more on the driving parts and less on trying to make E350/500s look like E55s.

M

Yea I agree. If you look at the E500, it doesn't mention the sport package, so you could have been right.

Like you said, driving dynamics need to be upped to compete...otherwise its just a cruiser....

Amen amen!!! :usa7uh:

If I might just interject something here. People in this market that want a "sports sedan" buy the 545i, and M45. The E class sells damn well doing what it is doing. It's not trying to be a sports sedan like the Lexus GS either. Mercedes knows it's customers in this market. They do not want a BMW. That's why they didn't buy one.

Zach is very correct there - the E class has long been the "safe" model for MB - meaning that it is traditionally the most conservative. The E class has a big market for people who are wanting a high-quality practical vehicle rather than a showy status-symbol - it has always been a popular model for retired people and the estate/station wagon version is popular with soccer-moms. The E class has never been "cool" - and that's kind of cool in its own right IMO.
