And that rear bumper

Wow, didn’t notice that until you pointed it out. That’s terrible. Tradeoffs for US pricing, I guess.

50 years later one would think that brands like MB would find ways to work around US amber light and bumper regs. It’s still a complete afterthought.

With the GT63 and E63 in place?
A CLS63 would most likely be a very slow seller and not worth the profits.. The E63 is very well established, the GT4 more sporty to begin with.
All of them are going to be slow sellers particularly the GT-63S with its exuberant price tag, SUVs is where it’s at the CLS63S would have been the sweet spot, better looking than both. They are making the same mistake by not having a E63S coupe. E53 will not cut it.

This is what I used to think. But, after seeing the new CLS in the flesh... I doubt the AMG version would look compelling enough. It blows my mind how much my perception has changed since the GT63 first rolled out. It now makes total sense, and makes a CLS version obsolete. The CLS is awkwardly styled. The parts certainly make sense, but the whole seems to come up short. The coup de grace is that the upcoming A class sedan robed it of its exclusive styling. It looks like an A class without the benefit of size perspective. The E class coupe is a much more compelling argument for a full-fat AMG. The omission of the coupe as a full 63 AMG continues to be a huge error, in my opinion.

I think the CLS53 already looks better than the GT63S the CLS63 would have been even better. At least we are in agreement about the E63S coupe they’ve let another opportunity slip again.

How do you know so much? I mean really? These high priced Benzes are going to be slow sellers based on what? But let me guess the overpriced BMW M850i is going to sell like hotcakes right? What is going to be the result of this "mistake" that Mercedes is making? I mean you seem to have all the answers, right? If they did a CLS63 you'd then cry about how they have the E, CLS and AMG GT 63 models and it's too many right? E53 won't cut it against what? Seem to me their doing the job of selling well so far, at least here. Tell me, is there anything dealing with common sense in your MB hater book?

You need to take the tiny fanboy glasses off for a minute because you really don`t know how things in this department work from a financial perspective. The AMGs are not slow sellers, they sell in limited quantities so there is a specific target here. Mercedes has good experience in this and know how to strategize its models to meet the demand while pulling in a profit balance. Its all about profit balance here as well as appeal. So according to you, there should be an E63 coupe (which would bump heads with the C63) CLS63s which would bump heads with the GT63s. Your idea would definitely overspread the development budgets. On top of that it would cause confusion among the specific targets that are firmly established in this market.
