CLS-Class (C218) Mercedes-Benz CLS (C218) Picture Thread

The C218 Mercedes-Benz CLS is the second generation of the Mercedes CLS-Class range of four-door coupé sedans. It is succeeded by the CLS (C257). Body styles: C218 (4-door coupé), X218 (5-door shooting brake). Production: January 2011 – December 2017
My God, we are down to criticizing the bloody side marker placement.

And if one were to put clear lenses in or paint them in the body color?

That would be my first mod. U.S side markers are always eye sores, but those things are just nasty.

At least I know that if I ever got a CLS, mine would stand out from the pack with just a simple modifying of those things. I blacked out the (nicer) ones on my E, and it's amazing at how much of a difference they make up front.

It's definitely just a U.S thing. We're the lucky ones. :D

Actually I'm glad that our cars have them, it makes it all that much easier to have a car that stands out from the pack: A simple $40 mod to darken or get clear corners gives you a "mod" that's a step above the crowds OEM orange eye sores. On the CLS it just looks very bad and awkward however, a weird design and angle.

I also just noticed that the AMG Package CLS doesn't have a chrome strip at the bottom of the doors, which is interesting. I knew something seemed "missing" from what I'm used to seeing on Benz profiles, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I like the strip, but I can see why they'd leave it out on a Sport model.

Why are they only offered in the US? I really didn't notice untill you pointed it out K-A :eusa_thin But like you say, maybe it's easier to stand out from the pack :D

Dear GOD..that is a magnificent interior!

Agreed, very special.

I would like to see it with anthracite wood, piano black or carbon fiber, that would work better with the black leather I think.

I don't care what the so called experts say, this is what I call.. a benchmark.

I absolutely agree. The CLS is the first of its kind and regardless of what other manufacturers do, it will still have that place.

This new one is just spectacular and so elegant yet it has an edge that many of us haven't seen in a car. So, this car really tends to have a lot of the attributes that are found in a sports car but also in a luxury sedan. Perfect execution if you ask me.

I couldn't believe it, I saw one on the road tonight! It was this dark blue color.

VERY nice and elegant car. The reverse wedge upper character line which bugs me SO much might not look as bad in person, although I still didn't love it (kind of distracting from the design, gotta see it in more elements to see how I really feel about it).

A few notes: It doesn't look as "Coupe" as the original, as the greenhouse looks a bit taller and more elegant. Also, it's not as "shouty" as the original, or as it appears in pics, I almost want to call it "understated" (maybe it was the color), and it doesn't seem be as dynamic or have as much imposing presence/strength language as the E-Class does, however it looks, again, VERY elegant, very smooth and svelte, yet crisp. Very classy. The rear end is gorgeous to me.

All in all, I'm sure I'm gonna be a big fan. Although I don't know if I'll like it more than the E-Class, or if I'll find it to be worth the price premium to me.

Exactly. It's VERY elegant like you say, and really stands out from the crowd.

.. Thinking about getting one? :D:D

Extremely elegant. A very classy car. More classy than the original, but not as extraverted IMO (I like it better).

Oh man, I hope not. I gotta go check one out at the Dealer, see it next to some E's, sit in it, etc. and see if the natural "lust-o-meter" starts pumping. I HOPE not, lol, as it's not in any way a smart fiscal move to even consider it.

So far I'm not sure if I'll like it more than the E, but there's only one way to find out....

I kind of wish they'd bring the CLS350 to the States though, as I'd be a lot more interested in that (and it's pricing would be closer to home). I just don't need a 4.4L TT V8 (seems indulgent for my driving style), as much fun as that motor would be.

I see, tough choice there!

When I saw it next to the E, I realized how different they are, but still of the same "family", if you can say so. I really appreciated the muscular look of the E, and next to each other, the CLS suddenly became much more coupé-ish, and really beautiful.

Make sure to check out a black CLS, it'll hide your hated line much more than silver. :) Or maybe you should check it in silver, to keep you away from it :D Haha.

Hahaha, two VERY good points about the color. :D

That's interesting, and I see what you mean. I think the E and CLS have such a good dynamic together this time around, as the E is the tough and stately Sedan, and the CLS is the pretty "Coupe like" Sedan.

So would you say the E appeared more muscular when you saw them next to each other? That's interesting because when I saw the CLS, I kept thinking that the E has a more dynamically muscular appearance, but wasn't sure if that was because I was focusing on the CLS so much. I really can't help but say that the CLS appeared very beautiful and relatively *understated*, which is surprising to me, but a nice surprise.

The E seemed more muscular to me when I saw them together, yes. Maybe because of the aggressive frontlights and the star grille, I can't tell. :t-hands: Still, the CLS managed to capture my attention.

As you say ofcourse, the E has a dynamic muscular appearance, but when you put the two together, it's a whole other story. I really got to experience the difference: The E became more brutal and muscular (while being dynamic ofcourse), while the CLS was smoother, more coupe-ish, making it even more dynamic. The CLS is kinda the E's beautiful sister. Seeing them apart however, makes you think of the new CLS as a sedan. But together, you really see the difference.

You should check 'em out really, it's a beautiful sight! :D Two masterpieces!

Edit: My English isn't too good, so if I'm saying something weird/unclear here, you're more than welcome to correct me :t-cheers:

Very well put, and I totally understand. I bet they are a gorgeous sight together, and I've already noticed in some side-by-side pics I've seen, they play off each other marvelously, and both have benefits to their designs. The "Beautiful Sister" thing is spot on!

The CLS does appear very Sedan, but I'm sure next to the very stately and formidable Sedan form of the E, the CLS will show its Coupe-ness and smoothness.

I can't wait to check more CLS's out. I also want to sit in it and see just how different it might fee inside.

Credit to a Member on MBWorld who just posted this after his encounter with the CLS.

A couple notes he said:

Negatives: TERRIBLY cheap HVAC, very under what you'd expect. More interior noise than the E-Class (unfortunate to hear, as I'd expect it to at least match the E, but maybe the frameless doors and more Sport enhancing elements make it louder?), and the aluminum doors don't have that "Tank like thud" that the E-Classes does.

Positives: Everything else. :D

I gotta say it looks great here! These cars look so dynamic and striking together, it's great.
