The last examples of the SLR Stirling Moss are currently being built, bringing the active era of production of the SLR supercar from Mercedes-Benz and McLaren to an end.

In 2004, with the swing-wing Coupe, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren jointly set out to continue the story of the legendary SLR racing sports cars of the 1950s. Since then, five different variants in the SLR family have been produced--two coupes, two roadster versions and finally the extreme SLR Stirling Moss.

In its final iteration, the SLR Stirling Moss, the legendary SLR featured a supercharged V-8 with 650 horsepower on tap. With neither a roof nor a windscreen to separate the driver and front passenger from nature, the extreme supercar is a worthy and legitimate bearer of the name of British motor-racing legend Stirling Moss, who piloted the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars to a succession of victories in the 1950s.

In total, 2,000 SLR models have been produced--substantially more than any other of its supercar rivals.

With the last example to be completed by the end of December, the end of SLR production finally marks the dissolution of the manufacturing agreement between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz.

really 2000 units??

Thats not bad.. thats like 400 cars a year..

Ile miss this car aswell..it was crazy and unique..

Lets hope MB makes a true sucessor someday:)

Long live the SLR.

Anyone know how much the last SLR that was auctioned on Nov. 20th sold for?

Impressive that they've managed to sell that many, but the sale success can be attributed to the car's high usage as a daily driver. Excellent partnership, excellent car.

Flawed partnership, flawed car. And even partners themselves admit to it and I bet they are glad to see it end.

I also think it's a good thing that it ended, this is one of the most disspointing cars from Merc and Macca.

Disappointing as what exactly? not to bring back the beaten to deatn argument but the SLR was tailor made to what exactly MB wanted it to be..a crazy fast, safe and comfy GT which WE ALL know that no other GT out there can beat that combo except in sport.

Love that car and will definitely miss it...LOVE the 722s version :icondrool:icondrool:icondrool:D

It was dissapointing because it didn't look half as good as the stratospheric concept that showcased it, and it wasn't really a supercar but neither a maga GT a la Veyron, an unsuccessful compromise, neither a Mercedes nor a Macca.

In straightline SL65 is as quick as Mclaren. Go check youtube if you dont believe.

Well IYO it didn't look as good as the concept but to me it looked just gorgeous and please we all know that production cars are a toned down versions of the concepts.;)

Care to explain why it's not a true MB? it's the fastest in staright lin, safest and most comfortable GT in the world..typical MB.

Not the 722 model or of course the SM one.

SL65 Black Series probably not far off either and with a better price. SLR is overpriced if we look at the performance. I rather put my money on SL65 BS (or SLS) than pay the extra money to get a SLR. And its not that much better either.

Well i can say the same about the Enzo and CGT,the SL65 BS is faster than both and cheaper. In that segment it's not the straight line performance that rules but exclusivity too in which the SLR triumphed big time.

No that's the veyron tarek.

Ok Veyron aside.:D

To be fair about the SL65 BS vs SLR, BS came much later, so it is only normal that it as fast as the SLR. Just like Scuderia or 458 is as fast as the Enzo or 997 GT2 is almost as fast as CGT. Only diffrence I guess is that Porsche and Ferrai knew when to stop making their super cars.

That is so sad. Mercedes-Benz fans can even mourn the lost of the SLR without uninvited BMW fans offering their opinions of negativity.

The SLR is a true Mercedes-Benz. One of the best Sport designs ever to come out of Germany. It showed Benz extreme side as well showing the world that Benz could successfully build a supercar in this day and age.

This along with the SLS shows that BMW can't do what Mercedes-Benz can. One of the Best Benzes produced. It will be greatly missed and no hater here has the authority to dismiss it. Especially considering that NO ONE here could actually build a better car.
