SLR Mercedes-Benz And McLaren Building The Last Of The SLR Supercars

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C199 / R199 / Z199) is a grand tourer jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive and sold from 2003 to 2010. When the car was developed, Mercedes-Benz owned 40 percent of the McLaren Group and the car was produced in conjunction between the two companies. The "SLR" name is an abbreviation for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), and was a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the car's inspiration. The car was offered in coupé, roadster and speedster bodystyles, with the latter being a limited edition model.
Of course SLR is good for daily use. Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan have showed us this. It's a girl car :D

I didn't know that Autobild is a factory :D :eusa_clap

Autobild did not drive the car. Ludwig did and he is a factory driver from Mercedes but the article was in Autobild.
Sorry, but I have read the article myself and Ludwig is MB driver. I know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: the link you posted even says the driver is Klaus Ludwig.
Autobild had an article about SLR and CGT and factory drivers were invited (Klaus Ludwig and Walther Röhrl) to discuss the cars. Ludwig did 7.40 min with SLR and Walther did 7.28 min with a Carrera GT.

Anyway, it doesn't change anything. SLR is still very fast across Nordschleife, so all these talks about it's poor driving performance are just ridiculous

Nobody talked about poor performance, but about the poor driving experience it gives: no feel through the steering, rubbish 'box with no rev-matching function, no LSD, poor braking feedback, unstable when braking, low-revving motor, uncomposed suspensions.

It's fast, powerful, but no proper supercar. More like a big Mustang. And you don't pay $500.000 for that.

Totally agree.

Not as fast the cars you listed with the same driver.

A car with such characteristics would never do so good around NR
u're wrong pal

yeah yeah whatever u say bmwfanboy

Top Gear.

yeah?

Jeremy Clarkson about SLR :
it doesn't take long to realise that this is fantastic car, it's a grippy, agile, adrenaline rush. I i can't help thinking, that it's actually better than Mclaren current race car.

I actually prefer it, to the old F1 supercar. It's less duff, less expensive , less terrifying, and the performance is more accessible because it's more controllable for more of the time.

It's brilliant. And i'm not at all surprised that it's cost 3 times more than Sl55. What does surprise me, is that it only cost half as much as the old F1 did.

I think some of the guys, who were jerking off on Mclaren F1 commited suicide, when Clarkson said that SLR is better than "proper supercar".

ps this is really funny, that slr get most of the insults from bimmerfans
so jealous of mercedes :usa7uh:

first of all, cleeeaaarly you are either oportunistic or don't really know top gear well. A top gear review is to be read as a whole, not a quote, since they change arguments 3 times in 1 review.

Secondly, Hammond, you know, the fit one, drove it in south africa and mentioned the points above.

Lol ...Wow! She looks like a total idiot in the photo. Why would anyone sell her a SLR? I guess money/sales.

If you can get Paris as a customer and all of her Lidsay friends ;)
I too guess money would be the reason...

and btw I think actually she look quite cute in that pic...
(not that she really does)

:t-cheers:
