May Update II : The Ultimate Dream Machine : BMW Z Spyder Stradale

I need to quote this, T. Look everybody, SCOTT said "when they release", not "if they release." :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Best regards,
south

LOL :eusa_danc
But the VED going into production was very much hinted at from the beginning. The car is production ready minus a bit showfloor bling of course :)

The dimensions point to a car shorter and lower than a Z8 , with a specific weight target.

1350 kg?

...California Spyder which made it to the 1:1 model stage back in 2005 @ Designworks.

There's your answer, klier. :usa7uh:

Perhaps it's here under the cloth with VK standing next to it. :t-hands: (I really have no idea what's under the cloth, and neither did EnI when I asked him over a year ago. I'm not even sure if it's a car...)

Yeah, I realised that after reading the post, very interesting!

I wish we could pull away the sheet so that we could see the car. Looking at the low profile and overall proportions it could well be this California Spyder....
Shame we never got to see it, I'm sure we'll get to see it in 10 years or so, when there's some special event that needs attention. Like they recently did with showing the prototype E34 M5 cabrio and E39 M5 Touring...

Also, Scott, I posted this in the Nurburgring win thread, but I'm not sure if you will read that thread so I'll ask here again:

All eyes are on the Ring for this weekends 24hr race and expectations are high particuliar for the M3 GT. If success beckons the next phase into the scaling down of the E92 could become apparent after the incoming M3 GTS stakes it's claim in history. Plans are in the running for another ltd edition to eclipse the current and sold out GTS , success in this race is one factor , but also continuing success in the ALMS and the Jeff Koons liviered M3 that will race this years 24hr Le Mans.

What are your thoughts concerning the project after this epic win for the BMW team with the M3 GT2 and Z4 GT3?

Lower...

It has taken a step closer , but one thing BMW are clear in regarding this model is that in the current status it is the M3 GTS that is in focus , so when we get further down the line perhaps with a few more wins under it's belt we will get to see the car.
The initial discussion leads to the introduction a year or so before production ends . The idea is to have the outgoing car as close to the GT2 car as physically possible.

Damn. That would mean a lot lower than both Italia and GT2 RS are....

Which means I am very sceptical, especially seeing as it's coming from a BMW marketing bod on an internet forum, with no way of proving it wrong for several years. And when it's released the figure of 1,350kg will be forgotten by everybody here.

Can we expect overdone prices like the GTS. So the cars end up in a garage s and we don t see them much on a racetrack/road?

Don't hope it to cost 100.000 €. SLS AMG, 911 Turbo S, R8 V10, Gallardo, 458 Italia and MP4-12C are all around 200.000 €. This Z is not a track car, it is not NA.

^^^^
Gotta start saving!!
Let´s see,,,,200000Eur,,,,comes out maybe in 2014,,,,48 months X 4166Eur per month,,,that sounds about right!
Just gonna have to stop paying mortgage on house, school for the kids, electric and gas bills, oh yeah ,and stop eating (this will help lower the sewage bill :D)
This souldn´t be too hard!
Maybe that´s why they call them dream cars,,,,,,only in our dreams!!

I think not. BMW never makes something better, but they take a new road. BMW does, others copy and do better. So BMW does something new. And so on.

question for scott27 (sorry for double post)

Scott, I'm quite sure you know about the new 4.7liter twin turbo V8 engine that mercedes has just developed. It cranks out 435hp and 516lbft (700nm) of torque and mercedes is going to be rolling it out on the facelifted cl coupe and the s class this fall. This engine seems to have "one upped" the current bmw twin turbo 4.4l engine found in the 750li which cranks out 407hp and 442lbft(600nm) of torque. My question to you is this; is bmw planning to upgrade their v8 engine in response to the new engine from mercedes?

If you order the M Sport Package for the X6 you can get the 4.4 ltr. V8 with 449 hp and 650Nm since last autumn. So the numbers from the Merc V8 are not really a different world. The new V8 from Merc is quite fuel efficient though, power output is not that important in this class if you ask me. Who will notice a difference - if not driven side by side - between 407 and 435 hp? Both are nice, fast cars :-)

Now that I think about it, this could be the Ferrari Supercar and Porsche 918 Spyder rival. The Porsche Carrera GT was a roadster, the 918 Spyder also is one, and so shall be this Z Spyder Stradale. A hybrid supercar. Just put a NA 4.0l V10 with over 500 PS, redline at 9.500 rpm and an even better sound than the Lexus LFA. Of course then add all ED stuff. But weight should stay under 1350 kg (EU).
