Levante Maserati SUV To Be Called Levante

The Maserati Levante (Tipo M161) is an executive crossover SUV produced by Maserati at the Mirafiori factory in Turin from 2016. The Levante went on sale in Europe in May 2016, and in North America in September 2016. The Levante was named after a warm, easterly wind that blows in the western Mediterranean Sea, southern France, down to the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Maserati Levante is inching closer to production as our spies have snapped the model wearing less camouflage than ever before.

While most of the crossover is still covered, the latest batch of spy photos reveal the Levante will have an Alfieri-inspired front with a prominent grille with what appears to be vertical stripes. The model also has slender headlights, mesh grille inserts and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.

The Levante will be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and the company has already confirmed it will feature a variety of engines including a V6 with outputs of 350 PS (257 kW) and 425 PS (312 kW). There will also be a plug-in hybrid variant, a V8-powered model with 560+ PS (412+ kW) and a diesel engine with outputs of 250 PS (184 kW), 275 PS (202 kW) and 340 PS (250 kW).

Well, I haven't argued about the Levante looks, because I've not seen it, nor do you, so it's actually quite difficult, to define, let alone discuss if it looks right or wrong.
I was disagreeing with you about the Ghibli, which IMHO, is the finest looking mid size sedan.

Then again, you wear green pants and pink underwear, so as they say, tastes are subjective :D

P.S: I guess you actually meant trasher and not thrasher?

Ghibli is definitely the looker in the segment. I reckon Levante will be as well. Proportions look great and miles better than the competition.

Maserati Levante base price will be 10% higher than the Ghibli

Everything is riding on the success of the Levante, Maserati’s first ever SUV model. After sales of the Ghibli and Quattroporte have been declining steadily, it’s time for the Levante to take a chunk out of the Cayenne market and bring home the bacon.

But all the styling and the Ferrari-derived engines mean nothing if the Levante costs too much. After all, the Cayenne and Range Rover Sport have built a solid, almost unshakable reputation. The Levante will be officially revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, and pricing details should arrive several months after that. But we don’t have to wait that long to find out a few details.

Peter Denton, the regional manager for Maserati North Europe, said the following in an interview with Auto Express magazine: “It will have a 10 percent premium on the Ghibli in terms of starting price.”

Ghibli prices change according to the market, but a general 10% increase is quite easy to understand. For example, in Britain, the Ghibli starts at £49,160, so the SUV will be roughly £55,000. As for America, the base sedan is $70,600, putting the Levante on a $77,660 pedestal.

In both cases, that means the Levante will cost roughly the same as a Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport. Of course, things are never white and black in the auto industry. True Car says the 2015 Maserati Ghibli is trending $7,009 below the official MSRP, so incentives could help undercut these rivals.

So why would you ignore the established models and go for something Italian? For starters, the Cayenne is old and heavy. There’s something good to be said about the novelty value and the strength of Maserati’s design. However, the strongest point of the Levante is going to be the soundtrack, as even the basic Maserati engines sound like they belong in a race car.

To be more specific, the gasoline V6 will be available with either 350 or 425 HP while the V8 will make more than 560 HP, although it won’t be available at launch. On the diesel front, the outputs will go from 250 to 275 HP with the V6, and eventually to 340 HP when a new twin-turbo unit is ready.

Nope, because they can't get this shite right. They'll launch this truck and over produce them working under the delusion that Maserati is a volume brand and after the all the early, must have it now buyers get theirs they'll have to whore the rest of them out with cheap leases like they did the Ghibli. Then they'll release they can't support the initial sales volume no matter what they do and the Levante's sales will drop like a rock, ala Quattroporte and Ghibli. Watch and see.

Maserati Levante spied showing new details

Maserati is putting the finishing touches on the Levante crossover in preparation for its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

Set to become one of the brand's most important models, the Levante is an upscale crossover that features a prominent grille, slender headlights, and a sporty front bumper. Moving further back, we can see an upward sweeping beltline, muscular rear fenders, and a sloping roofline that is partially hidden by camouflage. The model also has a four-tailpipe exhaust system and angular taillights.

While most Maserati models only have a few powertrain combinations, the Levante will have several including a V6 engine with outputs of 345 horsepower and 419 hp. Buyers looking for something more powerful will be able to order a high-performance V8 engine that develops more than 552 hp. There will also be several different diesel variants with outputs of 246 hp, 271 hp, and 335 hp.

Later on, the company will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant. Little is known about it, but the model's eco-friendly powertrain will also be offered in the facelifted Ghibli and Quattroporte.

Maserati(FCA) is slowly learning that they will neither meet their lofty sales targets nor compete against the establishment with the quality of the cars they're producing at the moment. Its as if they didn't benchmark test the QP and Ghibili.

The lease deals for the QP & Ghibili are now hilariously low (same as a C400/528i) and owners are not happy about initial and long term quality. Buyers were lured by the heavy ad campaigns and the exotic sounding "Maserati" name, now sales are dead.

I recently had a Ghibili rental for 3 days on hoilday; its waaay up there on the list of worst cars I've driven. Uncomfortable seats, throttle delay, touchy brakes, sub-par ride, basic tech, and rattling exhaust. The ancient Gran Turismo is another disappointment apart from the exhaust note.

I agree, they don't have the talent or they're simply being cheap and/or not taking the time to properly develop their cars. The only Maserati I would touch is the Granturismo. I can accept it's faults of that car because it is the real deal compared to these Chrysler based cars.

I don't think Maserati is going to make it truthfully. It almost appears like FCA is putting more effort into cars like the Guilia QV.

What exact car did you drive?
I can tell you that the quality of the MY16 QP and Ghibli have almost the same quality as the Germans. And this isn't my personal opinion but the opinion of magazine editors. It took some time for these two (related) cars to mature but they have and are now genuinely good cars. If you build a new car (in a to Maserati new factory) it takes some time to get the quality right.

I do agree that both cars are a little less focused than the glorious 5th gen QP (especially the GTS facelift) but that's the direction the company chose to stay profitable.

The GranTurismo is an astounding car. Most people that say it sucks don't understand it. It's a car involves the driver like no other. Not with insane accelerator ion or razor sharp handling but with its character. I've driven one for a month and even though it wasn't the fastest, lightest, highest quality, best handling car it captured my heart. Apart from being comfortable daily and offering good space the design, the sound, the character are unique and very like able.

The Ghibli is certainly better than they say. It is not a re bodied Chrysler as some make it out to be. I like their style and individuality. They can get away with a Royal Blue interior. You can't with a BMW.

Levante will be interesting to watch as it will be a new entry in the segment and new entries in that segment especially SUVs become the most wanted luxury vehicles. Levante certainly has a chance. The concept was impressive so much that on its IAA debut I even reported VAGs Bentley division where measuring a fictional vehicle alongside Levante which we now know to be the Bentayga. If it is good then it will be highly considered by everyone else rather than just the customers who are completely materialistic.

You have to admit it does look good.

Hopefully after the launch we will finally see the journey to Alferi.

A 2015 Ghibli S for 2500 miles (NYC to Miami and back). A quick trip to the Maserati/Ghibli forums shows a myriad of threads about quality issues and dissatisfied owners who've traded in their Ghiblis/QP. Magazine tests mean little compared to real-world experiences, in my opinion. Maybe expectations were too high.

http://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-worst-car-ive-ever-driven-maserati-ghibli-v6-s-1611185851

Back in 2011 I considered a Gran Turismo S as a replacement for my CL AMG, but after a extend test drive, it wasn't my cup of tea. However, I know a few Gran Tursimo owners who are fond of their cars and have had their cars for years.

A complication with Maseratis seeking profits is that they were accused by a local NYC franchise and a dealer in SoCal of grossly inflating sales figures back in September. Telling dealers to label demonstrators, which are also used as loaners, as sold vehicles.

“Dealers were informed that they would receive full higher or additional incentives on each Ghibli when punched as a demonstrator vehicle and then when the vehicle was later sold to a retail customer. The Maserati dealers that complied with the fraudulent scheme obtained and operated at a substantial economic advantage over the Maserati dealers that did not,” the complaint said.

Hayim did not punch the demonstrator vehicles at his stores and missed out on additional incentives, the complaint said.

“My client and Maserati have enjoyed a remarkably good relationship for many years,” Bellavia said, adding that at one point his client had become the world’s largest Maserati dealer. “This is a business dispute that hopefully can be resolved amicably.”
