Maserati should show at Frankfurt an new concept of the already in 2003 shown Maserati Kubang, that this time will make it into production to rival the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5. This new Maserati SUV will be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and will feature the already known NA 4,7l V8 with 450 PS and 510 Nm found in the GranCabrio Sport, mated to a ZF eight-speed-automatic. It will also get an alternative 3.0l V6 Diesel taken from the Jeep having 300 PS.

What is Maserati's relationship with Chrysler? I the read the next Quattroporte would have a Chrysler engine as well.

Maserati will have a lineup featuring turbocharged variants of Chrysler-sourced Pentastar V6
Last month, we reported that Maserati was working on an entry-level sedan model to rival the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and that that model would feature a turbocharged version of Chrysler's 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 with around 400 bhp (298 kW / 406 PS) .

Now, Inside Line, is reporting that sources 'close to' Maserati are saying a 3.0 liter twin-turbo version of the Pentastar V6 will also be powering future iterations of the Quattroporte and GranTurismo models - replacing their current Ferrari-supplied V8s.

Inside Line wrote in its post that their own Mark Takahashi said he "died a little" when creating an image of a Maserati with a Chrysler badge.

We hear ya, Mark.

Perhaps these are the kinds of "synergies" Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne lies awake at night thinking of instead of getting a good night's sleep.

Say it ain't so, Sergio.

If you build it, they won't come.
Maserati GranTurismo and Quattroporte to get Chrysler's Pentastar V6 engine - uhh?

So that article is false then, good to know.

Here's the problem, and I knew it.... This car is based on the "Jeep Grand Cherokee".... which is based on the Mercedes ML.... But is credited as the "Jeep Platform" since Mercedes got themselves into such a mess with Chrysler, part of the end result was Chrysler getting their chassis first (thus, like peeing on it, they lay their claim).

So, what's crazy is how the Maserati will be a Mercedes ML. Very weird.

And Maserati using Chrysler Pentastar motors ends the prestigiousness of Maserati as we know it.

I doubt the same, but it's impossible to think to a Suv with a 4.7 liter V8 Maserati which is poor in low-end torque and fuel consumption is dreadful.
Other rumors gave the 6.4 Hemi V8 engine as the tip, now the most reliable is the new 4.0-liter V8 Ferrari

Either way this "vehicle" will be a disaster. Jeep, ala Mercedes platform, hemi or Ferrari V8 and probably wicked styling to draw you in, but this is a Bastard of a vehicle either way. Maserati shouldn't even be making a SUV, neither should Jaguar for that matter. Oh well.

What could be a disaster I would not say. Still have to see how the concept will be released in Frankfurt.

Also unfortunately, SUVs are like bread to rack up profits and it is the only way to do that Maserati, Jaguar and ditto some of the same fate will befall to Bentley.

Good news it will get a new 4.0l Turbo V8 by Ferrari. It will fit the SUV better, and still get a Ferrari powertrain. Now I think this engine could even get into the California when it gets a facelift. Also, when I read "V8 Turbo by Ferrari", it reminds me of F40. :D

As long as there are Suburban Soccer Moms and bratty little kids, there will be demand for SUV's.

That's ridiculous.... The SUV will be built in the U.S? So what will be Italian about this car? The badges? Lol. I'd never buy an Italian (or German for that matter) car that's built in the U.S. This isn't Political, social, or quality oriented even (quality oriented a little bit however), but it just diminishes the experience to me. That SUV will be anything but Italian.

I'm speechless...it actually looks good though. Too bad it won't be a real deal Maserati.

M

If the engine is reworked by Maser in Italy then at least there's hope..
