You're right. Since so few people have ever driven it, it remains a mysteriously iconic car. Probably one of my favorite cars of all time. And then you hear that sound...Why have something as common as an ENZO when you could have this sexy beast of a car!
Afaik, is a Giugiaro design......These are as long as a LWB S-Class, very wide, and under 4ft tall so it has the most presence of just about all the 21 century hypercars. Cartoonish is a way to describe it.
Frank Stephenson is such a legend with his diverse design portfolio.

http://www.coolsupercars.com/maserati-mc-12/The Ferrari Maserati Group’s wealth of knowledge and technological excellence have been poured into the design of the new car. In addition to this, its styling was developed in the wind tunnel from a Giugiaro idea by the Maserati technicians with the fundamental contribution of Frank Stephenson, the Ferrari Maserati Group’s own Director of Concept Design and Development. The European type-approved version of the new car goes on sale after the summer.
7 Questions with Frank Stephenson, the Designer of the Modern Mini, McLaren P1, Ferrari F430, and More – News – Car and DriverFS: It was like going from heaven to hell. Fiat was ready to crash, the company had had it. [Sergio] Marchionne had come in and sacked almost everybody, and I was basically summoned to be design director. I was like, “What have I done wrong?” They said nothing, you’ve just got to build a new car in 10 months and it’s got to be successful or no more Fiat. So we had a brilliant idea; we took the most successful product they had, the Panda, and ripped the body off and put another on. That was the new 500. "
Yes, but Frank oversaw the entire design process.

Very interesting bit about the conception of the Fiat 500.
C/D: You had a dream job and got to oversee the F430 and Maserati MC12. So why did you move to Fiat?

Yes, the answer is very ambiguous... Some sites say Giugiaro, some Stephenson.
Italdesign's own website claim the project as theirs.....
Either way, it's a hack job, and the original Enzo is eons superior looking.
No effing way! Enzo looks like a kit car, easily one of the ugliest Ferraris ever
Enzo is mindblowingly good looking, much better than the LaFerrari IMO. So simple and sleek and lean looking. Perfect.
The MC12 is the kit car here. Literally because it’s a modded Enzo.
Where are you btw @Gianclaudio
I miss you.
