I really hate lexus' advirtising campaign with that stupid voice they use. Its So lame. They think their appealing to us because they use an extremely pretentious and stupid sounding voice to make their cars seem "luxurous". The adds also act like their coming up with all these technologies that have existed in teh german car industry for years. Its disgusting. And what bothers me even more is that it must be working because more and more Americans are purchasing Lexus' and falling for the fake "luxurious" or for lack of better phrase "wanna be" german car. Just the name "Lexus" bothers me. Why dont they simply call it how it is "a glorified toyota".

I do however think that Lexus is a good product but they really dont understand how to market it. Most Americans dont want look pretentious are a wanna be rich person.

Ok thats it. I feel a little better now.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

I don't know what you're on about, but I know for certain the new Q7 commercial is even worse than what you say of Lexus commercials. They show a Q7 being driven on some twisty backroads and through urban city streets, all the while there's some cheesy female voice singing "streets of tommorow" - incredibly uneffective and annoying to not only look at but hear as well. Audi's advertising campaigns are quite weak (U.S. only) , and it seems to be getting worse if this latest commercial for the Q7 is anything to go by. If they wanted to do something more appealing and purposeful they could have come up w/ some funky analogy that has some real world relevance to the target group, perhaps by emphasizing the cars versatility and craftsmanship tied in w/ Audi's intuitive technological know how.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

most lexus commercials don't really catch my attention, but the one about moments is pretty good. :usa7uh:

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

Ha! You guys are cracking me up, because I've had run-ins with both the current Lexus and Audi campaigns.

I think Audi marketing is going all the wrong way right now, and "Streets of Tomorrow" is emblematic of that. Certan brands (Apple especially comes to mind) have been able to convince people of their Luxury value while at the same time staying true to their modernist principles. The problem with Audi marketing is that it's very me too, and talks up the brand's luxury credentials as though it were playing 2nd fiddle to BMW and Mercedes.

What Audi really needs is a unique, perhaps provocative campeign that demonstrates the value of ideas in their company. Instead we get somewhat half-assed, half-macho stuff that doesn't do the product justice.

As for Lexus. Well... They're in an uncomfortable phase right now where they're growing out of being a German-car parrot. Design is going in the right direction, and they're on their way to becoming desireable cars instead of just good cars for people with conservative sensibilities. I think they'll be able to stand on their own without having to "attach" themsleves to ideas of luxury lifestyle after one more product cycle.

On the other hand, this thread got started talking about radio ads. Even BMW and Mercedes radio ads border on the absurd with voices specially selected and processed to resonate with listeners. Radio ads, in and of themselves, tend twoards the absurd. Lexus ads push the envelope sometimes, with the "luxury guy" talking like an Ivy league asswipe about the "intelligent equipment" in their car.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

Where the only cue is the voice, they have to have some way of differentiating themselves, even if it is to the point of caricature. You wouldn't want your Mercedes or Lexus ad to have a guy sounding just like the guy who's on the Chevy ad, would you?

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

"Lexus" originates from the German word "Luxus" which means luxury. When even a company's name mimics a German word what do you expect really?

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

Yawn. So where did you get this piece of hearsay from, Yannis?

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

I thought Lexus stood for Luxury Export for United States.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

I think it is rather immature from some of you to come here and bash Lexus just because it is attempting to compete with the car manufacturers that we dearly love.

I personally like Lexus and would consider purchasing one, however, even if I didn't like them I would show some sort of respect in some way or form and not come here for comic relief or for some other reason to bash their marketing.

We are know that most commercials and marketting departments today in days are not really out there to get you to purchase or love their items. They are simply trying to get you to get a good laugh at their product or something to that effect. Take a look at the Sprite commercials that have been out for about a month or so in the US. They are so weird, and make no sense. They do not make me want to go drink Sprite over anything else nor make me thirsty in the first place.

Lexus has come far and one day may surpass many german car brands. So, if some of you want to sit here and bash or critique Lexus just because it has a german name that means 'luxury', or because the guy in the commercials sounds to 'refined' then you don't have any appreciation for any car manufacturer, which should be the first and upmost held rule by any enthusiast, and are extremely biased and only prefer your brand or manufacturers from a specific origin.

Matt I am sorry but I cannot agree with you here. Americans buy more 'get-rich-schemes' than any other country out there. Americans buy more things and pamper themselves even if they cannot afford it on a daily basis. Why? Because some products that are marketted have the tendency to portray themselves as highly qualified upper class products. That is why they purchase such products, so that they can have a status symbol! Come on! Look at the BMW, MB, AUDI brand. Do you think that the average doctor or lawyer buys the car because it has a high level of craftsmenship or because it won several races? I highly doubt it. They buy it because it is way more powerful as a symbol than it is under the hood.

I have read it in a car magazine years ago.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

The best ad I've seen recently was the Benz one where they showed their history or racing. And then they showed the whole lineup in silver, I thought that was pretty sweet, especially for motorheads. Audi, well I don't know, their ads don't really catch my attention that much, although that Q7 is looking mighty good. BMW have the 3 series had going, which shows everything its won recently, and then says They only test drove it, imagine what they'd say if they owned one. I thought that was pretty smart as well, although I would like to see the 3er more in action if that makes sense.

As for Lexus, well their ads just don't bring anything new. They had the one with the RX and had German engineers envying them. Not very true but oh well. Btw, these are all TV ads.

We really gotta stop saying that Lexus is a "glorified Toyota" because that's just ridiculous.

Quality and reliability is not the same thing. Lexus has good reliability but the quality hasn't convinced me that it's top notch.

BTW if you go at Lexus site and check their history, the greatest achievements they have made according to them are the first places in JD Power surveys.:D

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

I wouldn't believe it from a magazine unless it was an article from Lexus, though they'd never say anything like that themselves even if it was true. For what it's worth, it really makes no difference what the origin of the name was. What matters is the reality of what the cars are, now, in the present.

Yeah, and try to stop saying "glorified Toyota", please. Someone might be tempted to say that Audis are glorified VWs, as unkind and as pointless as that might be.

I never said that Lexus is glorified Toyota. Lexus and Toyota is the same company. They have the same designers , same engineers same mechanical parts, same board members and same dealers.

Lexus=Toyota and that's the simple truth.

Audi has it's own management , designers, engineers ect. Audi also existed long before VW did so it's not the same thing.

Do you have proof of everything you just said?

Proof for what? Everything i say it's 100% true. Have you ever heard of Lexus CEO? Lexus board of directors? Lexus head designer?

Here is an example:

Johan van Zyl, president and CEO of Toyota SA, said in a media release: "The introduction of the RX300 is a very significant step forward for Lexus in SA. It is an American favourite in its class and is of a type of SUV that is proving very attractive to SA buyer.

Re: Lexus adds are driving me up a wall!!!!

I am not to sure that Audi is completely seperate from VW. VW still maintains control over the big boy and isn't the Phaeton the same thing as the A8? And the Passat the samething as the A6?
