If that is true to reality, I like it alot! Especially the rearward sloping side glass and the floating rear lamps:usa7uh:

The accent line on the door in bold blue works for me at emphasizing the front fender's aggressiveness.

You mean three BMW concepts...

I doubt there are three more concepts... One will surely be the 7er LCI, another could be the 6er Shooting Brake and the third one something related with the M brand.

No M Supercar to rival R8. :(

Does BMW really believe there is market for such "underpowered" green supercars? Is this the car that BMW needs? Is it a high volume seller? BMW could get more money from the 1 Series F2X if it looked good than on an overpriced green car.

^ No, BMW believes the i8 will be a gigantic waste of money and time. Still they are investing billions in it, but who cares?

Incredible. Glad you seem to know better though.

The i8 can perfectly be the bassis for some other M car that could fulfill the needs of people like Levi. Mind a carnon fiber chassis like this with the hybrid tech and the engine of the M5 could be something really special.

I love the interior and it's a balanced design.
1630kg from a 4.4m car is ridiculous, the batteries must weight something like 350kg.

Not more Concepts. Production cars. The BMW i8 Spyder is our Concept Car and now official!
It actually shows in its appearance how the production i8 will look now. For example pay close attention to the doors , the new luggage lid within the rear and the front of the car. If you remember I told you about the Spyder and its retaining of the i8's rear aerodynamics to form the roll-over protection and equally stylish buttresses giving the car a Targa like quality. The CFRP roof panel clips on easily between the windscreen and rear buttresses and is stored with ease.

M will get their own opportunity there will not be crossovers with BMWi . The interesting thing about the i8 is that it can go faster than originally limited to. So it is something to think about especially in related to a possible performance arm of BMWi.

The BMW stand now under construction in Beijing looks as if you took the IAA hall in length and split it down the middle. The Mercedes stand is roughly about the same size.

From Press Release:
Modular LifeDrive architecture offers a preview of the future.
Like the Coupe, the BMW i8 Concept Spyder is also built around the innovative LifeDrive architecture, a fusion of independent functional units. For example, the carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) Life module gives the car an extremely lightweight passenger cell, while the Drive modules – made primarily from aluminium components – bring together all the car’s operational driving functions, such as the powertrain, chassis and safety structure. Impressively extensive use of high-tech materials allows this innovative concept to chart new territory in terms of weight minimisation, structural rigidity and crash safety. This is good news not only for the car’s dynamic performance, but also for its range and fuel economy. Intelligent lightweight design, encompassing the use of innovative materials, has allowed the unavoidable additional weight of the high-output hybrid drivetrain to be cancelled out in full. Plus, the LifeDrive architecture has been carefully adapted to the sports car character of the BMW i8 Concept Spyder. The front and rear axle modules are connected by an “energy tunnel”, which houses the hybrid battery. This allows the engineers to give the car a low centre of gravity and ideal balance.

The distinctive two-way split of the LifeDrive concept is also reflected in the car’s design, which renders the basic elements of the body clearly distinguishable. Expressive surfaces and precise lines create a harmonious transition from one module into another. This overlap and interlocking of surfaces and lines – “layering” in BMW i speak – is displayed both on the body and in the interior of the new car.

BMW i8 Concept Spyder officially unveiled

MW has officially unveiled the i8 Concept Spyder.
Essentially a convertible version of last year's coupe, the spyder rides on a shortened wheelbase and has laser headlights, a semi-transparent hood and a rakish windscreen with an integrated spoiler. Out back, there's a rear diffuser, "three-dimensional air outlets" and U-shaped taillights.
The cabin is elegantly appointed with leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim and piano black accents. There's also a digital instrument cluster and a three-dimensional iDrive display.
Motivation is provided by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that features a 131 PS (96 kW / 129 hp) electric motor and a 223 PS (164 kW / 220 hp) three-cylinder petrol engine. The electric motor powers the front wheels, while the petrol engine powers the rear wheels. This setup gives the car an all-wheel drive system as well as a combined output of 354 PS (260 kW / 349 hp) and 550 Nm (406 Nm) of torque. It enables the roadster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
More importantly, the concept's lithium-ion batteries enable the model to travel up to 30 kilometers (19 miles) on electricity alone. This helps to give the car a combined fuel consumption rating of 3 L/100 km (94.1 mpg UK / 78.4 mpg US).

I do like both this and the coupe though I just don't see it's worldwide appeal?

BMW need a true performance car which makes the public of the entire world to sit up and noticed and say 'f*** Ferrari or Porsche or who ever, I want this' and frankly the i8 isn't that car. As a showcase of their talents then it definitely ticks all boxes but it's not what everyone wants............ not even close to that dream. :(

The interiors starting to look near production ready though the passenger would surely appreciate an air vent for them too.

I hope the convertible won't make it into production because it will defeat the purpose of a vehicle like this. Why would anyone build a car designed to maximize fuel and energy efficiency and sabotage their effort by creating a convertible version? Anyway even though the car looks largely the same as before it is much closer to production ready, well done to BMW.
