R8 Leaked: Audi R8 V12 TDI Study for Detroit!

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. Production ended in the first quarter of 2024. Production: June 2006 – March 2024 (45,949 Units), Model years: 2007–2024
Just saw the video. With that many air intakes surely there will be enough air to cool the V10 twin turbo. The entire front end and the rear ends are covered by air intakes, surely those Audi engineers can make it work. The Veryon engineers made their W16 quad turbo work, with even less air intake than this.

Ok back to the V12 concept. It looks extremely aggressive, comon Audi, bring it on.

Am i the only one thinking that it's ridiculous to put a diesel in a supercar ?

Hell no, shonguiz, you are not alone!! Diesel clatter does not evoke supreme sportiness for me. Okay for a highway cruiser, utterly stupid and ridiculous on a supercar.

Listen to that NOIIIIISE "clacclaclaclacbrôôôôôôôôôôorrrrrrrrrclaclaclaclaclac", and I only was on 3500rpm (well, almost redzone in fact :D:D)...

Sure will be fast, but emotionless. Awful noise, no always increasing power making you wonder when it will stop to accelerate, no redzone pleasure, nothing.

Only stupid speed, useless torque (for a supercar) and ridiculous noise. No downshifting fun, nothing.
Just the wish to put the highest gear and to arrive faster and go in a real sportcar, with noise, sensations and pleasure...

You push the throttle, it goes faster. Nothing more. And you have to hurry put the higher gear, because the power starts to decrease after 4500rpm...

Sorry, but for me a supercar is petrol engined. Period. And i don't think this giant and heavy diesel will be fundamentally different than actual diesels. Impressive, but not in a supercar.

STUPID!

:t-banghea:t-crazy2::t-crazy2:

I think it will be a cool concept. But, I'd rather have the V8 or the upcoming V10.
It will be fast, but lack of a moderately high red line (how much is it btw? 5000?) will kill the experience. Also the massive engine is not going to do the dynamics any good. Not a fan of that bordering on ricey body kit either. the normal one looks much better.

C'est un plaisir que de lire de telles paroles. :usa7uh:

hehe!! Audi should sell it with an automatic transmission! Then you don't have the shifting problem and you could "enjoy" your super car for travelling. :D:D
This car will be good for the Autobahn (though, it is to uncomfortable and loud), but on a race track - hmm...don't know.

That absolutely ain't right.

This ain't no W123 200D engine, raoul...

Plus, The R8 Ain't a Supercar!!! We all know what qualifies as a Supercar and R8 ain't that, period!

:t-cheers:

Well it looks like a supercar and goes like a sportscar.

:usa7uh:

Well said, but if you ask me CGT, SLR, Zonda and such qualify as supercars, the R8 doesn't! Therefore, this diesel engine in R8 i don't mind at all, but a diesel in a CGT or Zonda? Now, that would be a disaster, wouldn't it?

Hope you get what i mean...:usa7uh:

I get it but i and cool raoul think that even for a car with the level of sportiness of an R8, a diesel isn't suited.

Of course it's different but the fact is that the first thing you are expecting from a super car or a "super sport car" is maximum driving pleasure.

Why you're so sure there won't be any driving pleasure?

Mate, you know i've been driving a diesel car, 1,7 ton... And one much lighter, more agile, much lighter R8 with Wankler's engine and a Nissan 350Z can do nothing against my car... Even when put on track.;)

Tell me there's no fun in this:

It may not sound like a petrol, but there's driving pleasure, more than i need in my poor, stinky, 3.0d TT... :t-drive: ;):D

There's 1st time for everything and in this Audi's case at least it's interesting and i'm eager to see the outcome, but forgive me for being so confident in this whole project. (I admit there's a dose of diesel admiration/bias by me...:D )

:t-cheers:

I pick R8 V8 over R8 v12 becuase I like to reev high and I like to use my stick a lot, that's driving pleasure to me. scrw the diesel and give the car a highreeving biturbo instead :eusa_clap Let the posers drive Diesels (Ty) :D

In this type of car, i'd too take high revving V8 (bi-turbo or not) over V12 diesel, absolutely... It's just that i don't share opinion with some about the whole thing/idea being pointless and nonsense.

Lol, Andreas...:jpshakehe

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
