Land Rover will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a new special edition of the iconic Defender – the SVX. Unveiled for the first time at the British Red Cross Ball in London on November 22, 2007, the SVX is considered by Land Rover as the most stylish and feature-packed version of the Defender ever produced. Of course, don’t expect any miracles as the Defender remains a working tool.

Dressed in metallic black paintwork and subtle satin black graphic decals, the Defender SVX will be available in both 90 soft-top and 90 station wagon versions. Distinctive exterior features have a contrasting silver finish, such as the unique 'Defender' and 'SVX' badges, tubular side-steps, and the bold surround for the front grille and new, clear-lens headlamps. All SVX models feature new, 'diamond turned' five-spoke alloy wheels, a reinforced aluminium front undershield and clear LED rear lights.

Inside, the limited edition model is equipped with custom-designed Recaro front seats, distinctive alloy gear knobs, a new audio system (with subwoofer and USB socket), iPod cradle and Garmin satellite navigation. The soft-top models also get a metallic silver tubular cage that supports a tailor-made, removable black fabric hood. Each SVX model for the UK will also come fitted with an individually numbered plaque, e.g. 001.

Land Rover will produce a total of 200 Defender SVX vehicles in the UK – 140 two-seat Defender 90 soft-tops and 60 four-seat 90 station wagons. Production of the Defender SVX will start in spring 2008, with deliveries to customers starting from early summer for soft-tops and later in the summer for station wagons. Prices will be announced in December, 2007.

The Africa Edition is limited to 50 units.

Available on the Defender 90 and 110 models, the Africa edition packs a Santorini black finish with a red roof and black saw tooth alloy wheels on the outside. Inside, the SUV gets black seat covers with red piping, Bluetooth and a Defender Africa decal. Optional accessories include a snorkel, roof rack, rear step, bumper caps and a front protection bar.

Power for the Defender Africa edition comes from the same 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine seen in other models. Paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, the SUV is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 15.8 seconds and achieve a top-speed of 145 km/h.

The Defender Africa edition is priced at 523,000 Rand (INR 29 lakhs) for the 90 model and 562,000 Rand (INR 31.7 lakhs) for the longer model.

As the Defender heads to 2015, Land Rover is planning to cease production by the end of next year.

Land Rover introduces a trio of final Defender special editions
Defender production to stop in December
Land Rover is retiring the iconic Defender with three final special editions before production of the legendary off-roader will come to an end in December.

Up first, the Defender Heritage Edition draws its inspiration from early Land Rover models but with a modern twist and a Grasmere Green paintjob contrasted by a white roof. It can also be visually distinguished by a heritage grille and HUE 166 graphics as a throwback to the registration plate of the first pre-production Land Rover known as "Huey". Only 400 units will be made at a starting price of £27,800 and will be available from August in 90 Hard Top, 90 Station Wagon, 110 Station Wagon body styles.

The Defender Adventure Edition was designed for those who embrace the model's "go anywhere, do anything" attitude and comes with extra underbody protection and rides on Goodyear MT/R tires. Production will be capped at 600 units and each will come with bespoke decals and a leather-trimmed interior. It's set to go on sale in August for £43,495 as 90 Station Wagon 110 Station Wagon models.

Lastly, the Defender Autobiography Edition is a more luxurious variant programmed to reach dealerships in April with a two-tone paint and a full Windsor leather upholstery. It comes with a bump in power from 122 HP (90 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) to 150 HP (110 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and only 80 units will be produced exclusively as a 90 Station Wagon version priced from £61,845.

Nice one!

I've promised to myself to buy one, when I get to move to the countryside and build myself a nice house.
