fter surveying the European economic scene, Volkswagen may have decided now is not the time to launch utility vehicles with Bentley and Lamborghini badges. Bentley officials say they will continue to push for support for the EXP 9 F and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman has said planning for the Urus will continue until VW tells it to stop.

That decision could come on November 23, when VW's board will vote on the company's budget for equipment, factories and vehicles. With VW's sales slowing and the Euro economy slumping further, some industry watchers say the company is more likely to build its cash reserves than to introduce super-expensive luxury SUVs or crossovers.

"Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis," says Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt in a new Automotive News Europe story. "Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs."

VAG supposedly sits on fast amounts of cash....maybe they borrowed some to Merkel, for her bailout of the Eurozone countries:D

I'm cocky, strikes are testing the South-African economy to the limit. Hope Ferdinad Piech & kie can bail us out:unsure:

very weird move, considering that SUVs are the milk cows nowadays for many brands. I guess they can't afford the initial investment but then again, they have the know-how with VW-PAG-Audi SUV platform.

Anywho, we are facing some weird economical era. better late than sorry.

The only good thing to come out of economic woes is it forces people and companies to come down to earth, be lean and structured, and "sober". In a booming economy VAG would sign off on all types of gluttonous projects that would all but ruin the sanctity of some of their upper brands. Bentley SUV, Lambo SUV, Porsche Compact Sedan, who knows, sky's the limit when they lose control. Then when the next economic collapse comes, they have to kill off all these once-pure and brilliant brands because they're now bloated and unconvincing, not to mention ask for handouts from Govts. in desperation. We saw it with GM.

It's too bad it takes tough times for them to regain focus to stay lean and structured. A Lamborghini SUV should have never even have been considered.

This.

Just look at the crazy number of niche body styles that have cropped up in the past 24 months. Things have irresponsibly spiral out of control.
