Fisker Karma Revero (FKA: Fisker Karma) Hybrid Sports Sedan

Fisker Inc. was an American automotive company founded by Danish automotive designer Henrik Fisker and his wife Geeta Gupta-Fisker. Launched in 2016 and based in Manhattan Beach, California, Fisker Inc. was the successor to Fisker Automotive. In early 2024, the company experienced intense financial difficulties, its shares were delisted from the NYSE, and ceased operations.

The first image of the 100mpg plug-in hybrid that former BMW and Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker is planning for production in 2009 has been released ahead of the car’s Detroit show debut in January 2008.

Described as “being the height of a Porsche 911, but with the internal space to fit four adults and their luggage”, the new car is a ground-up new design, according to Fisker Automotive.

The swooping, low roof-line and sculpted front wings definitely give Fisker’s design the look of a four-door supercar, with echoes of the Aston Martin Rapide.

But it will need brilliant project management, design and engineering skills to get the production model anywhere near the quality promised in this sketch.
Even more ambitiously, the design gives a glimpse of the look that should lead to a “range of beautiful, exciting-looking environmental-friendly cars”, says the company.

Key performance targets of the sporty four-seater are a 50-mile range on pure electric power and an overall range of 620 miles when the car is used in hybrid mode.

Details of the new hybrid’s chassis and powertrain are still secret, although both petrol and diesel hybrids will be offered.

The chassis? Fisker Automotive claims that “all cars will have a completely new platform developed from the ground-up”.

That will clearly be very expensive and a major technical challenge. For example, getting regulatory approval in crash and emissions tests is enough work to keep teams of dozens of engineers busy at the world’s biggest car-makers for several years.

Developing a reliable and durable electrical system and air conditioning/heating system will be another huge challenge, on top of the basic need to get the hybrid powerrtain operating efficiently.

Even such basic production engineering processes as making doors fit and lock reliably is time-consuming and expensive – it’s something that Britain’s legion of specialist sports car makers often try to avoid.

Yet these details will have to be attended to, because Fisker’s car won’t be cheap at $80,000 (£40,000 at current exchange rates).

Despite such practical realities, Fisker Automotive says the four-seat hybrid will go on sale in “the fourth quarter of 2009” – that’s just two years away.
Most major car-makers expect to take that sort of time to get a new model to production, often after three to five years of concept engineering.
Production is then planned to ramp-up to 15,000 a year by 2011.

A second line, of presumably cheaper models, is planned for 2014, the volume then predicted at an astonishing 100,000 per year.

Fisker Automotive is a new company set-up as a joint venture by Fisker Coachworks and Quantum Technologies to get the hybrid into production.
The ambitious project has just received “initial financing” by Palo Alto Investors, a Californian fund, according to a release from Fisker Automotive.

Always like Fisker cars, this could be good for its expansion.

Re: Fisker Hybrid (AutoCar)

damn...that does look quite hot. Snub the hybrid, put a proper V8 or V10 in there. LOL

Re: Fisker Hybrid Sports Sedan

Wicked, especially if the production car will look exactly like that. What a I don't like about it is the front, which is a bit too BMW-ish for my taste.

Re: Fisker Hybrid Sports Sedan

I like it, very BMWish but the gril is too big, is this a production version ?

Re: Fisker Hybrid Sports Sedan

The BMW influence is understandable considering Henrik Fisker designed the Z8. I like your choice of words Luw: "wicked". I concur, that's exactly what this is.

Re: Fisker Hybrid Sports Sedan

That looks like Tramonto/Latigo mixed with Mercedes-Benz F700 finished with stretched BMW grille. :cwm1:

It is kind of a bastard conceived by two unblessed people. The side and profile of the car are top notch but he screwed it up with the front.

Re: Fisker Hybrid Sports Sedan

....Further company developments include the appointment of ex-BMW engineer Thomas Fritz to ensure the continuation in the development of high quality Fisker Automotive vehicles. In Fritz's 19 year career in the auto industry, he has held prominent positions in the field of engineering for companies such as BMW, Ford & Magna. He has been involved in such projects as the current Range Rover, Rolls Royce, BMW Z8 and various Lincoln concept programs. Thomas will hold the position of Director of Engineering for Fisker Automotive
The Fisker compagny is indeed very Bmwised. :D

Re: Fisker Hybrid (AutoCar)

i can't see how they can make a good handling car without borrowing chassis from other carmakers.

Uh... maybe by hiring a qualified suspension experts? And chassis experts? Just, you know, throwing it out there, that it might be *gasp!* possible to make a car handle well without using a preexisting chassis.

Fisker Karma Bares All Prior to Detroit

Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 9.13.33 AM.webp

Karma: a term describing that of cause and effect. And so it is appropriate that Fisker Automotive's first production car is so named. Dubbed as a vehicle allowing consumers the good practise of automotive karma, this environmentally-friendly plug-in hybrid is a new breed of vehicle, bringing the extreme comfort and style of the luxury automobile category to an eco-friendlier one.

Cutting-edge technology features at the new Karma's heart. Developed exclusively for Fisker Automotive by Quantum Technologies, Q-DRIVE provides a small petrol engine in turning a generator for power to its lithium-ion battery pack. The technology will be used to power future derivatives under the Fisker brand. Regenerative braking will be employed to regain power otherwise lost from braking, while an optional solar roof will charge the battery and maintain partly self-contained climate control when parked.
Offering emissions-free driving of up to 50 miles per charge, Fisker are keen to point out that with more than 60% of Americans and Europeans driving less than 50 miles on their daily commutes, household fuel dependency could drop with a Karma on the drive. "If this 60% of commuters would drive a plug-in hybrid like the Fisker Karma, we could see the fastest possible reduction both in oil consumption and emissions - all without sacrificing their daily driving habits."

A sleek, elongated design, the result of an all-new chassis built specifically for the development of the new powertrain, places the battery pack in the centre of the vehicle - improving weight distribution and dynamics. Proportional in height to Porsche's 911 and in length to the Mercedes CLS, the Fisker Karma makes extensive use of lightweight aluminium for its body panels and structure, producing impressive performance statistics - sprinting to sixty in just six seconds and continuing 'beyond' 125 mph.
Luxury exudes from the Karma's 'first class' four-seater cabin, with modern sophistication and a spacious luggage capacity the overriding features. The Karma's electronic aides include a Navigation system in the front with DVD player and integrated seat back displays in the rear. Two modes of driving are selectable: "Stealth Mode" and "Sport Mode". The former tweaks the car's setup for quiet economy mode and the latter, a mode to access the full extent of the car's power.

The design is final and will be put to market in the form seen next week at Detroit, with the first 99 examples to be numbered and signed by Henrik Fisker - produced in the colour and trim of the show vehicle. The Fisker Karma will hit Detroit January 14th, with first deliveries starting the last quarter of 2009.
