Hot! Jaguar: What's Next?

A dead horse.

The BMW XM will be a Topseller in comparison.
True is not a top seller. But it sells enough to remain exclusive. The XM was not about volume in terms of sales. It’s an extroverted choice. There is a better choice of vehicles than the XM but it depends on the customer.
Jaguar will have the same issue. It might be an advantage to attracting a new type of clientele with the finished car. But its test will be with its customer base who were not enamoured with their latest marketing campaign of idealism over traditional Jaguar attributes.

Can we not drag a Jaguar thread off topic please.

If you want to nibble at troll bait at least do it in the right thread.

Maybe, but it is still one of the most interesting things happening in the automobile sector these days. Jaguar’s move is very bold and I am very curious to see if this project goes to hell or if they will surprise many of us.

All it needs to do is offset Range-Rover emissions, then it will save JLR a bundle instead of paying Tesla for emissions pooling.
To offset emissions they need to be able to sell them in a decent quantity. If it’s some hyper expensive car that they barely sell, it won’t offset anything, and if they have to discount and cut prices or make a huge loss on each one, it’s not going to be saving them anything vs buying credits.

What, you want me to quote a line written in this thread and go reply to it in the XM thread? Seems a little extra. Talking about a recently failed BMW product in a Jaguar thread (a brand that is synonymous with failure and is taking a large risk to relaunch) doesn’t seem too off topic me personally. But anyways, I apologize Fuhrer.

This puts it in a nutshell.

The project intrigues me. Will it succeed in winning more hearts, minds and pocketbooks ? I haven't the faintest clue at this point.

That’s only the first wave, we saw that already on the Taycan.

...and this pattern will continue until a developmental plateau is reached regarding battery, e-motor technology and infrastructural progress. When this plateau will become apparent...currently remains somewhat difficult to assess. But...IMHO...when a broader public perceives the threshold of this plateau rapidly approaching, BEVs will find a far greater degree of acceptance. Not to mention REEV technology that is finding increasing automotive industry support.

I personally would currently prefer the REEV to the BEV. I guess their residuals will be better as well.

Indeed, it appears that VAG is committing to REEV technology with M-B at least insinuating the same. I imagine that BMW is very seriously considering a return (following the original i3 and to a certain extent i8) to REEV tech as well. Range and packaging propostions are arguably compelling.

I think REE's are dead on arrival, who want to have to spend money on fuel as well as electricity. Europe is so densely populated that REEV's are unnecessary, the Chinese have switched to EV's on a massive scale, when I was there in March it was spot the ICE vehicle the number of EV's was vast, like Europe REEV's will be irrelevant charging locations are everywhere, and the US can do whatever they think works for them.
