Is an MB really worth all the extra money???...

Look i would really hate my car to pull the safety belts and start to brake every time i take a close turn with speed like i hate right now when the ESP and traction control in a Mercedes works even when you don't need it just when you try to drive fast. When the system gets better and the problems are solved Audi will use it too.

Well for one Pre-Safe isn't nearly as sensitive as Mercedes' traction control and secondly there aren't any problems with the Pre-Safe.

The guy at CAR Magazine spun the S-Class on purpose to activate the system. I haven't see one case in which Pre-safe got in the way of normal or even mildly sprited driving. Anything beyond that you shouldn't be doing in a S-Class anyway.

I think we have to look at things from the "economy of scale" perspective.

MB could become an extreme high-volume producer like Toyota - the price of each unit would be reduced with increased production - everyone in suburbia could own an S class :D

Mercedes is expensive, but not quite as over-priced as they may seem at first - particularly when you take development costs and production volume into consideration.

There are no problems with pre-safe and its application is extremely relevant in a Car like the S-class. And the fact of the matter is Audi and BMW simply dont have it because they are clearly BEHIND in this aspect. Shame really, even Lexus managed to copy it in 3 years, but now MB has generation 2.

Bashing MB has become somewhat of a fad on these boards lately. :t-crazy2:

True, and the truth of the matter is that MB, BMW and Audi are more or less in the same boat when it comes Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.

All this German infighting can be counter-productive and distracting as to who the real "enemy" is - the Japanese.

Yeah but for the most part, most MB fans have been mature enough to sit back and take it.

I'm immature and can't help myself. :D lol

Alright out of curiosity, how was the W220 safer than the first Bangle 7er? Give me facts though.

What you have to understand is that image is an expensive thing.
Mercedes Benz: Most expensive
BMW: Cheaper than Benz, more expensive than Audi
Audi: "Cheapest"

You guys are getting way too carried away with the whole Benz came out with so and so first.

Should a F430 costs that much more than a 911 or an M6? No way it shoudln't... because it's a Ferrari, it can.

The simple fact it had presafe is one.

My argument about presafe mainly is not that MB was first with it, which it was ;) , but that it obviously costs a little bit of money to put it into a car.

Thats expensive. Im pretty sure thats what the new S will be here, minus about 10% or so.

Well the dollar is weak now ..maybe thats why it seems so much..

The S should be in the $80K range, once your in the $100K's theres alot more out there too choose from. Its just a high number thats all.

For example what?? the bentelys and RR´s cost to much.. and the BMW,audi, jag, lexus cost less..

If you have $120K for an S you can go for a Bentley GT. More prestigious for sure.... And hold their value like no car i have seen.

Oh ok makes sense, the price differences seem rather small between the 350 and 500, no wonder so many people opt for the 500.

Here the w220 S350 is AUS$170G (approx US$120G). s430 AUS$210G (approx US$150G) and the S500 around AUS$270G (approx US$195G), so about a US$75 G difference between the 350 and 500. Thats HUGE and the reason many people go for the 350 and 430 instead.

The 740i costs around 178G as well, so comparable to the S350 and the 750il $208G comparable to the S430.

Makes the prices in Sweden look very reasonable hey? :eusa_doh:
