It will be under the ceiling of 300 PS but there will be further MINIs down the line. Including a MINI using CFRP body panels.
^ BMW doesn't want MINIs to be faster than actual BMWs, which is sad.
I want a 350 hp MINI.
All these hot hatches with more more than a BMW straight Six 3.0 with turbo is something I can't stand either. Come on now!!!
A STANDARD M5 F10 should have had 600 hp, not the 30 year anniversary version.
That way a standard new M3 could have had around 480-500 hp (like the new C63), and a regular 3.0 I6 around 380-400hp. And not the weak 300 hp it still has now.
Performance hatches are not just about the biggest numbers. They have to support the numbers dynamically there are some on the list that possibly won't. The MINI might be considered too gauche for a performance hatch but it will still be able to compete with the best.
Regardless of what Scott believe the customer for one of these super hatchbacks won't give the Mini Cooper JCW a second glance if it doesn't have the kind of firepower of these others. Acceleration is a huge draw when buying a performance car because for most it's the one thing you can easily experience on day to day driving, be it overtaking or simply flooring it away from the lights just for kicks.
Does the A45 AMG not qualify for this?
This is too much. These are not hot-hatches. They are too big and too powerful for the concept of a hot-hatch. It's a cannibalization of the segment...
It will be under the ceiling of 300 PS but there will be further MINIs down the line. Including a MINI using CFRP body panels and substantially more power but with a reduction in weight.
The new JCW will be no slouch. You can probably expect it to out-drive some of the above.
That was a brilliant hijacking of this BMW-free thread. You have successfully derailed my train of thought and I am now thinking about getting one of these more powerful M3s that you mentioned (end of next year) followed by a 600+hp G80 M5 (2 years later). Can you give me a hint if my plans fit with actual production dates?BMW wants to make JCW more like BMW M. So do not expect to see JCW on some MINI models , just JCW aero packets.
But JCW will introduce special MINIs throughout this Journey.
The imminent arrival of the BMW M2 will be three years after the launch of the new BMW M3 and M4 and around 2 and a half years of market introduction so there will be room for progression therefore allowing the new G80 M5 , lighter (target is 80-100kg lighter than the current car) more powerful (600+ HP) and with optional xDrive more breathing room.
Although the M5 30 Jahre is a ltd edition model , the production models of the BMW X5M and X6M will be Ms most powerful cars to date.
With the G80 M5s increase in power there is a sizeable gap for a more powerful variant of the BMW M3 and M4.
