.....and I'm loving this !!!

Both the Ford and Honda will be fwd as far as I'm aware, I know huge improvements have been made in eliminating torque steer and gaining traction but I still say good luck trying to put that amount to the road and not compromising something else in the process.

If Volkswagen give us the R400 then you can bet your last dollar the RS3 will have at least that figure.... unless the R400 is an extremely limited run and priced sky high.

This is too much. These are not hot-hatches. They are too big and too powerful for the concept of a hot-hatch. It's a cannibalization of the segment...

^^^
That is a 'regular' hot-hatch, nothing 'mega' about it like all these 300-400hp cars shown here. Might as well add 2 dozen other cars to this topic if you are going to include that one. Maybe if they offer a GP again that would be somewhat close...

It will be under the ceiling of 300 PS but there will be further MINIs down the line. Including a MINI using CFRP body panels and substantially more power but with a reduction in weight.
The new JCW will be no slouch. You can probably expect it to out-drive some of the above.

Sure but that is nowhere near what the cars are that are being talked about here. That would be a GTI/Focus ST (more like Polo GTI or Fiesta ST) type competitor. Not a 'mega hatch' even as cool as you think it might be.

Performance hatches are not just about the biggest numbers. They have to support the numbers dynamically there are some on the list that possibly won't. The MINI might be considered too gauche for a performance hatch but it will still be able to compete with the best.

^ BMW doesn't want MINIs to be faster than actual BMWs, which is sad.
I want a 350 hp MINI.

All these hot hatches with more more than a BMW straight Six 3.0 with turbo is something I can't stand either. Come on now!!!

A STANDARD M5 F10 should have had 600 hp, not the 30 year anniversary version.
That way a standard new M3 could have had around 480-500 hp (like the new C63), and a regular 3.0 I6 around 380-400hp. And not the weak 300 hp it still has now.

BMW wants to make JCW more like BMW M. So do not expect to see JCW on some MINI models , just JCW aero packets.
But JCW will introduce special MINIs throughout this Journey.

The imminent arrival of the BMW M2 will be three years after the launch of the new BMW M3 and M4 and around 2 and a half years of market introduction so there will be room for progression therefore allowing the new G80 M5 , lighter (target is 80-100kg lighter than the current car) more powerful (600+ HP) and with optional xDrive more breathing room.

Although the M5 30 Jahre is a ltd edition model , the production models of the BMW X5M and X6M will be Ms most powerful cars to date.

With the G80 M5s increase in power there is a sizeable gap for a more powerful variant of the BMW M3 and M4.

Regardless of what Scott believe the customer for one of these super hatchbacks won't give the Mini Cooper JCW a second glance if it doesn't have the kind of firepower of these others. Acceleration is a huge draw when buying a performance car because for most it's the one thing you can easily experience on day to day driving, be it overtaking or simply flooring it away from the lights just for kicks.

I get it. But this is about MEGA hatches. Not just 'regular' hot/performance hatches. And it just has good FEEL. The performance still comes up a bit short of even the best of its OWN competitors. All the cars listed here will drive circles around it. That is the point of a MEGA hatch...

That was my point. If we were to include a JWC Mini, we would add a dozen other 'regular' hot hatches to this topic. This is about MEGA hatches. That is all I was getting at.

What do you mean too big, they aren't any larger than the lesser powered models they are based on ;)

BMW won't even give MINI the full fat version of the current 1.6 Cooper engine, Peugeot give the RC-Z 50hp more than MINI from the same engine, bloody pathetic IMO.

That was a brilliant hijacking of this BMW-free thread. You have successfully derailed my train of thought and I am now thinking about getting one of these more powerful M3s that you mentioned (end of next year) followed by a 600+hp G80 M5 (2 years later). Can you give me a hint if my plans fit with actual production dates? ;)

I'm expecting to see what Honda does with a Turbo, a 7800rpm turbo perhaps? Nothing Evos haven't done for awhile.

Being new and an owner of the brand Ford I'm intrested about Focus RS. Is some of the magic from Fiesta ST coming to Focus RS. Let's hope so.
