M3/M4 Info on the forthcoming BMW M3 (E90)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

I hope Huck is wrong this time. The rear lights are strange.

Not only are the lights strange it is highly impossible that they will ever appear on BMW's 3er coupes. BMW reserves those lights for the 7ish sedans not for the sleek coupes. Trust me if you look at all of BMW's coupes you will see a signature and that signature does not reflect the 7's with the exception of the 6er. Doubt those lights will be the final product.

What you say is wrong.

Sure, those lights are not the final product, but the 'signature' you're talking about is non-existant. BMW has a 3er and 6er coupe. The one before, and the other after Bangle. 3er coupe is supposed to have design cues of the 6er.

Of course those lights are not the final product, I said that didn't I?

There is a signature in the BMW line up that is developing and is more subjective than anything else. We could debate that for years and I will choose not to.

Of course the one before is different from the upcoming one because of your exact comment--Bangle. Nevertheless you need to realize that all cars now fall under bangle and if you remember correctly, the E90 was designed to be different from the 5er because Bangle wanted it to be a conservative change and not a drastic change from the E46.

Don't tell anyone that they are wrong or right, when it is purely an opinoin. Don't tell anyone what will happen in design when it is purely a subjective topic and no one will even know.

If you have any further questions that will indicate a debate please PM me and I will discuss with you further this topic. I would like to avoid getting off topic on this thread. Thank you

New BMW M3 Sedan Spy Photos

The powerful M-version of BMW’s 3-series is scheduled for launch next year only. The 3-series M will be available as coupe, convertible and four door. For the first time power will come from a V8 power plant, derived from the M5 and M6. It is a 4.0 litre engine delivering 415 HP, transmission is a seven speed SMG gearbox. A traditional six-speed manual transmission will be offered as an option.

The photos are showing a prototype of the sedan in current cold weather testing. It has still some disguise at front and rear end, the rear skirt in particular hiding the four exhaust pipes.

DAMN!!! Alx, I'm with you on this one. If the next M3 looks like that then that's going to be my next car. I just hope the rear lights are just a little bit different then the sedan. I hope the front and the rear look just like that, that car looks so mean. :t-cheers:

Its good to see the M3 has 4 doors, I hope it stays that way but also a coupe version.

415? I was hoping for 425.....I thought they might want to put a little more HP in there than the RS4

Not that it really needs more anyway. The thing I am afraid of is that this M3 will be priced way too high. The E46 M3 and B6/B7 S4 were both in the mid 50s well-equipped, but I'm guessing this M3 is going to jump up in price over the last one just like the new M5 did over the previous model.

I seriously doubt you would be able to tell the difference between 415hp and 425hp. Anyways there's always aftermarket tuning. Also, I'm fairly certain that the M3 is going to be lighter than the RS4 (AWD is heavy) and combine that with its 7 speed SMG and RS4 will have a tough time with the new M3.

I think the price hike is inevitable. First, the base e90 is more expensive than the base e46. Don't forget about the exchange rates and inflation. Also, like you mentioned, the M5 should be a fairly good indactor of how much the M3 should cost over its pedestrian counterpart. I would expect a base price of around 60K and a healthy list of options more than able to push it over the 70K mark. Progress is never cheap!

Good point. I suppose the M3 and RS4 will be very similar in performance and naturally I'd lean to the bimmer but we'll see. The RS4 is an excellent car but BMW always pushes their cars to perfection and the M3 will be to perfection, don't doubt it.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
