If you were a BMW CEO ...

Yep and I'd make it a 10K option so the profit will be there.

But lightening something that is already made heavier than the original product does not make sense. :D

Let's just hope there is a great margin in it for BMW with the M3 convertible.

Lightness and focus on the smaller cars will definitely be my main focus when I become a member of the board. Let's go with the MINI-E, Isetta and 1-series. These will be the new bread winners for BMW when the customers start downsizing. People who yesterday would have bought a 5-series will settle with a 3-sereis.

On the same note, there is no point in having the same focus on the larger X-models beyond this generation. The next generation large x-models will not be at all as attractive as the technology for improving running costs and impact on the environment is not mature enough. The sheer size of these cars does, however, make them suitable for introducing the often cumbersome new technology while the smaller models will manage with less efficient solutions as their weight helps them.

Furthermore. I would make it a goal that every new generation of a model should lose at least 5 % weight compared to the car it replaces.

I'm the CEO right? I'm in charge, I say take some of the weight out now. No one goes to lunch until they can present a plan on how to try and do it at least. M3 convertible included. It simply should not weigh so much. Carbon Fiber roof and so on. Make it happen.

Marcus, you are going off topic! Don't kidnap this thread as well, please. Stick to the main question. Or leave the thread, please. :t-cheers:

You don't need to be in every bloody BMW thread, you know. :usa7uh:

This boy is incredible! His name should be Mercus, not Marcus.

I guess it wouldn't be so hard for BMW to make the M3 Cab 100 kilograms lighter. Or even 200. The problem would be, that nobody would like to pay the extra-price connected to the exotic materials.
If you get the M3 Cab for 60.000 at 1.800kg, would you buy it for 100.000 if it had only 1.600kg? I don't think so... And that is why BMW is building the car so heavy.

In my absence I would like to thank Eni for this suggestion .
Whilst some comments are commendable and fit within the BMW philosophy . Others are straight off the product line page of other manufacturers which ,means if I was hiring you would have no chance.

BMW has it's own philosophy . Each or our products showcase innovation and a dynamic aspect that each defines the whole image of BMW .
A showcase of a supercar under the BMW badge would not enhance the image of BMW we prefer all our products to be dynamically superior than our rivals and not having to rely on the image of a supercar to sell their entry segment models. We know how each of our products should be and these offspring do not need a big daddy to promote that image.

BMW are intent currently on the now and what brings tomorrow .
Efficient Dynamics is possibly one of the most significant ideas to come from BMW. You can now buy a BMW from the 1er/3er/5er/6er/7er and the X and of course Z models all featuring innovation from Efficient Dynamics .
Where is such a line up from our rivals ?

Unfortunately our rivals are not even close to offering a product line of this magnitude. Why they have been complacent to know that the german industry and it's big emission heavy cars would not be sacrificed - because of the mass workforce in the German auto manufacturing base.
But are we sure? , Efficient Dynamics is effectively implemented if such a scenario happens , Every BMW now being developed falls under Efficient Dynamics including the M Division , and there are more highly efficent programmes coming from BMW , What you can buy today in our product line is stage 1. Active Hybrid is stage 2. Stage 3 and so on?

Full Hybrid ? look at the MINI-E a highly signicant programme and the very first product under project-i , The next a BMW 1er (Or maybe X1) full hybrid for Geneva and then the excitement builds with a full hybrid BMW Twin Sportscar Concept based off the next 1er platform internally known as "illusion" and "Reality"

Progressive Activity Sedan ? As Eni announced our customers want such a car , instead of a Touring or X model they want the luxury of a sedan with the flexibility of a touring or X5. We are marketing this car as "Creative Consistency" Meaning Consistent as a BMW in image , luxury , performance and dynamics but in a more creative persona .

Z4 is perceived as "Kinetic Amplification" meaning it is here to redeem itself as a sports car ,an absolute BMW sportscar. But in the development of the car everything was taken into consideration to what worked on the previous car and what didnt and what you will get is an amplified revolution of the current car but now with the ability the looks of the car suggest. We will also stress the "Roadster" Concept from the long bonnet to the short rear deck and the low to the road driving position as characteristics which define the Roadster Concept , There is some flashbacks to the old BMW 328 a Roadster in the classic sense.

And the 7er launch "Dawn of a new era" media film has just won two awards.

Well i have nothing against u man personally at least but there's some really plain lame points in there:D

Um if i was BMW CEO..
i would get rid of these new X cars (all besides the X5)
And ile focus on more sport.. and cars that bring passion..

My goal would not be Sales leader..
My goal with be feeling, passion.. heritage..

PS
So more or less opposite of the direction they are goin in now..:)

This is a funny thread!:)
All at this forum probably know about my feelings against BMW:D
Still they have cars with great caracteristic design which I happen to like,
So my wish you be,

"Dear Bayerische Motoren Werke or Bavarian Motor Company.
Established in 1913 and based in Munich, Germany.
Started out as an aero engine manufacturer, hence your company logo.
Comprised of four quadrants of alternating white and blue color.
It is a stylized representation of an airplane propeller spinning against the clear blue sky.
Also, white and blue are the traditional colors of Bavaria"

Eitherway please make a: BMW 6-Series 655 CSL Cabriolet

Hmmm... been biding my time with this thread.

I like BMWs. A lot. So much so that when I'm recommending cars to my wealthier, more posh friends (those that just can't possibly consider a Subaru ;) - just kidding) I wholeheartedly punt BMW models.

In fact, I can truthfully state that I have been instrumental in my friends' purchases of 320d's, 330d's, 330i's, 325i Tourings, 335i's and Z4's. And Tony almost bought that M6... Good cars - all of them.

And yet, for all my appreciation and desire for a Beemer - I've yet to own one. The reason is: I haven't found the model that bridges the gap between performance and affordability. A BMW Approved used 130i was almost on the cards but I chose to rather put my money into a car that the whole family would benefit from.

Ok, so background drivel dispensed with - here's what I would want to see from BMW.

First and foremost, a petrol 2.0 litre turbocharged in-line four to replace the engine in the 120i and 320i. In two states of tune: 105 kW, 200 Nm in sDrive18i models and 135 kW, 250 Nm in sDrive20i derivatives. Sounds in line with Efficient Dynamics to me... it's not like I'm asking for fireworks or anything.

Next, I'd be interested in seeing an X2 SAC with decidedly rakish, sleek looks coupled with the award-winning 2.0D TT. This would seem far more in tune with the city slicker audience being targetted than the "shrunken X5/X3" looks of the X1. I like the X1 but really, surely the prospective buyer is more image conscious than practicality focussed - so why the run-of-the-mill two box SUV shape? It's not like the car's ever going to be a Freelander competitor but the Freelander LRX would be some stiff competition to the X1. So, BMW needs a car to take the LRX head-on.

A lightened, manual-only, 135tii with LSD is a must imo.

On the other end of the spectrum...

I would love to see an M3 Touring with those big wheels that fit the arches just so, a discrete but noticeable tailgate spoiler and the amazing chunkiness of the M3 front-end.

I believe in the necessity of halo models to inspire the dreamer in all of us - hence the need for a 335 kW, 430 Nm M3 CSL. I'm thinking of a car with extensive technical attention - particularly in the areas of weight reduction through use of smart materials, lightened drivetrain featuring, for example, carbon-fibre propshafts and direct injection coupled with innovative componentry and energy recovery technology*. To satisfy the efficient dynamics brief is easy, and, done before; simply offer a city mode and a sport mode for the engine mapping.

*Why can't we see innovations like exhaust heat energy recovery systems that could be used to power small electrical superchargers?

Do I think that BMW needs to market cars like X5 M and X6 M? Well, they're about as socially relevant and environmentally sensitive as a top-end supercar if your organisation is all about punting the "green revolution". So, if you have such a strategy, you can't be hypocritical or contradictory: put your money where your mouth is or shut your pieholes.

As for concepts such as Z4M Coupes or Z4 Roadster sDrive35tii... well yes, nice for enthusiasts but altogether niche.

Finally, I wouldn't mind seeing a performance diesel derivative of the MINI. Let's call it MINI Cooper sD. And yeah, ditch the MINI Clubbing sealsman.

Imo, having a pocket-rocket like 135i in the list, we don't need a 1-Series with M badge! :t-cheers:

I think mostly people would agree with you, including me, except for this line though. Why? Well, the reason most of us on here are pitching these things is because we are enthusiasts. We are, after all, on German car zone. We are not on Sensible Car forums, or something.

Let's be honest, most of us on here could care less about Giving a full analysis on what BMW should or shouldn't do, and that was iterated with Scott saying that "Most of you wouldn't stand a chance if I was hiring you" or something like that. That is a "no sh!t sherlock" kind of statement. No where was it stated, "what would you say if you were interviewing for a job", and stated that if we were CEO. In other words, we have the power. So, as an enthusiast what I will speak of is the stuff that I fantasize about. I'd be more inclined to give Scott a better and more well thought out response if I were interviewing with BMW. The fact that I'm not, well you'll get the "Build a M3 GT-R" response. :usa7uh:
