German racing car company HWA is reportedly likely to enter formula one in 2009. The news magazine Focus reports that the outfit, which since 2000 has built Mercedes-Benz’s cars for the DTM series, could become involved in the current McLaren-Mercedes collaboration.

It was reported in June that, despite McLaren and Mercedes’ collaboration on the $600,000 SLR supercar, Mercedes would pair with HWA alone for the SLR’s successor.

Interestingly, HWA is run by the former CEO of Mercedes-Benz, Jurgen Hubbert; a fact that could spark new speculation that the largest shareholder of Ron Dennis’ outfit could be looking to bring an end to the remaining British elements of the F1 team. (GMM)

I guess Mercedes was pissed this year with all mess that happened inside McLaren F1 team...

I think we MB fans should all get together and pray together that this happen:eusa_pray:eusa_pray:D

I don't understand what it means.

Will they stop collaboration with McLaren? No, HWA will "become involved in the cooperation". So it will be, like before, the name McLaren-Mercedes. The name of HWA will not appear.

So, what does it mean? they only have 40% of McLaren, so Ron Dennis can't be fired by them, unless the other shareholder wants it too...

I don't see what it will change, only that the main partner of McLaren will become HWA and Mercedes will be less involved technically wise (notice that the motors already are furnished by Illmor, belonging to Mercedes, not by Mercedes itself).

If someone can explain to me what this really means? :t-hands: :eusa_thin

Sad...

German racing car company HWA has denied reports that it is likely to enter formula one in 2007. The German news magazine Focus last week claimed that the company, which since 2000 has built Mercedes-Benz’s cars for the DTM series, could become involved in the current McLaren collaboration, or set up a Mercedes-Benz ‘B’ team.

The British weekly Autocar added that the bid could be backed by mostly Dubai based businesses, some of which had intended to enter F1 with Prodrive in 2008. It was also suggested that the HWA rumor linked up with speculation that Mercedes could be looking to end its involvement with Ron Dennis’ Woking based team.

But HWA CEO Hans-Jurgen Mattheis scotched the reports. “There’s nothing to it,” he told sport1.de. “This is all pure speculation.”
Mattheis added that HWA has “currently no ambitions in that direction”.

Hmm...this would be pretty badass. HWA definitely know how to build badass cars, I'm guessing MB will only be an engine supplier since they own half of mclaren.

Makes sense, after all the shit that hit the fan this season, MB probably doesn't want to put all their eggs in the McLaren basket. But not sure how it will workout in reality - is HWA going to be the B team like Red Bull and Torro Rosso or like 2 equal teams? I wonder if McLaren will share any secrets with them if it is the latter And with out McLaren's help, HWA will have a long ass learning curve.

Possible scenario:

1. HWA enters F1 and works closely with their sister team Mclaren as a B-team.

2. After 1-3 seasons HWA is an established team enjoying growth and success.

3. HWA feel like they no longer need to work with Mclaren and convince Mercedes to divorce Mclaren.

4. HWA and Mercedes announce their new team Hans-Werner Mercedes, leaving Mclaren confused and lonely.
