M6 How many horsepower for the M6?

The BMW M6 is a high-performance version of the 6 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand from 1983 to 2019 (with a hiatus from 1990 to 2004). Introduced in the coupe body style, the M6 was also built in convertible and fastback sedan ('Gran Coupe') body styles for later generations. An M6 model was built for each of the first three generations of the 6 Series. Production of the M6 ended in 2019 and it was replaced by the BMW M8 (F91/F92/F93) in 2019. Official website: BMW M

More power will only make sense if the throttle response and the engine flexibility don't suffer against the M5.

M saloons should be Grand Tourer with a touch of Magic but M coupes should be all about the driving experience.

Make it lighter, that's what I say.

Should, should, could, would.

I am just stating facts here. The M6 should weigh 1500 kg. I think we all agree on that. It's not going to happen, so step out of it will you?

Well we did have all these M6 CSL rumors years ago for the E63 6er......and we got that one off M5 'CSL' at the end of the E60 generation......who knows, maybe this gen they come through....

But the regular M6? Not a chance. We can already see it's weight by looking at the weight of the other cars that are already here, like the 650i, 550i and M5.

M6 wont be light, just forget about it.

It might not be that light, but it will be lighter than the M5. Rest assured!
This is one of the reasons I don`t thik it will get a power upgrade.

(what I can`t wait to see is tests between the M6 and the C63 BS or better yet the upcoming SL63! I`m thinking the new SL63 might be a little lighter than the new M6.) but lest not talk about that yet... just a thought.

^Precisely the actual weight isn't that important at the moment because none of us know this fact for sure but anything is better than nothing and that's the point I'm making, extra power isn't needed as long as its lighter. Be that 40kg, 60kg or even more which would be better. The last M6 never really lived up to its potential and was regarded as an M5 minus 2 doors instead of a proper sportscar, whilst this isnt a great problem with the normal 6 series who role is more than of a GT car the M6 should be much more special and focused towards thrilling its driver, hopefully BMW have taken this into account.

M6 coupe will be lighter than M5, and M6 GC and M6 cabrio will be heavier. That's 2 out of 3 M6 models, rest assured!

This is not point you have to make. It's car 101

This is all highly subjective, and a lot of people will disagree.
Some of it is even nonsense of course, since the M5 is highly focused, and highly special. You're acting as if an M5 isn't thrilling it's driver!

Not to shatter your 'dreams' or anything, but the M6 will get the same role as the M6 got last gen. Plain and simple. The M5 is getting raving reviews all across the board, and the M6 coupe will be that car but slightly better and with two doors less.

Isn't it? I'm pretty sure I have always said no need for extra power if it's lighter.

If you thought I was implying the M5 wasn't special then you have misunderstood my meaning. The M5 has added an extra element of comfort and luxury which wasn't there before, this is great but not as necessary on the coupe, it's role should be closer to that of a big Carrera. Admittedly it's weight and size won't allowed it to feel as nimble but you get the point.

P.S.
Any word on price, the last M6 was quite a bit more expensive than the M5, will this continue?

BMW needs a true SL compeditor with an M-version to boot. (something like the Z8 but a little less exotic)

Somehow I don`t like the idea of an M6 cabrio. (too heavy and pointless.)
------
Imagine a droptop version of the C63 Black-Series for example. Utterly pointless!!!

Due to there being nothing to distract the focus from the new 3er Sedan. BMW will now premiere the M6 Cabrio in Geneva in March.
Also the M5 was the primary focus for M as that is still relatively new to the US Market.

The new BMW M6 Coupe will make its world premiere @ Beijing , late April. On the back of another substantial increase in demand for M products in 2011 for China.

C63 AMG (not to mention the Black Series) and M6 cabrio have absolutely nothing in common, so I don't understand comparing them.

And the M6 will among the fastest 4 seat cabrios on the planet. With the high tech, looks and comfort to boot (not to mention interior quality)

Notice I used the C63 Black Series as an example.
The M6 will be almost just as capable. My point there was BMW should keep the standards for the M6, lightweight, fast and capable. (it`s all about performance)
Why add the extra weight of a drop top. I think BMW should leave that to the 650. This of course is just my opinion.
There will be customers out there who will want all kinds of crap added to their M6. This includes pimping it with 24 inch wheels.

In straightline yes but not on the track. The new 6-series is almost a 1900 kg car and gained like 150 kg compare to previous 6er.

lOl, you just managed to steer this conversation in another direction.

Germancarforum will have to elect you as a track time administrator.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
