They've a slot! I'm really looking forwards to this Hypercar the original was so special!

I'm beginning to think the original wasn't all that special, it shared far to much with the rest of the McLaren range to be considered special. At the very least it should have been a 3 seater like the F1 and Speedtail. Here's hoping the new one fixes that mistake.

That is McLaren in a nutshell, they have since their comeback in 2010 had only different versions of one car.

We'll see.

That is McLaren in a nutshell, they have since their comeback in 2010 had only different versions of one car.

Bugatti came back just in 2005 with altleast 3-4 years pre production prototyping. Exactly the same situation.

And I Love them more than anything. Bugatti Chiron/Variants/Divo/Centodeici/La Noire and the Mistral?

Atleast the P1 was a hybrid. But even they never made right hand drive ones. Smh.

Swedes and the Italians too, trace their engines back.

A New McLaren Hypercar Could Debut This Year!

The P1 successor is expected to have gullwing doors and over 1,000 horsepower.

Eleven years have passed since McLaren took the wraps off the P1. Although there have been many special models from Woking since then, a true P1 successor has yet to see the light of day. But by year's end, we may finally see a new flagship from the exotic British marque—and it'll still have a large-displacement combustion engine.

According to Automotive News Europe, the new McLaren hypercar is internally codenamed "P18" and uses a plug-in hybrid V8 setup. The gasoline engine and electric motor(s) are expected to deliver a combined output of over 1,000 horsepower with an all-new carbon fiber chassis. The seats are reportedly bolted onto the chassis to cut weight and boost rigidity, while some of the suspension components are said to be 3D-printed.

While McLarens are known for their dihedral doors, the P18 is supposedly going to represent a break from the norm by adopting gullwing doors. ANE cites sources close to the matter saying the long-overdue follow-up to the P1 is getting an active rear spoiler along with other aero features derived from Formula 1 cars. At the front, the future member of the "Ultimate Series" lineup is said to have recessed headlights in the same vein as Artura's.

The new crown jewel will break cover before the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Nicolas Brown, President of the Americas region, told ANE the engineers are currently "fine-tuning" the new hypercar. It is believed the hybrid setup is a new development as much as 70 percent lighter than what the company currently uses in the Artura. The fact it's not going to be a pure electric model is no surprise since CEO Michael Leiters said "real supercars" without a combustion engine won't materialize before 2030.

But there are already a few electric high-performance vehicles: Rimac Nevera, Lotus Evija, and the Pininfarina Battista, just to name a few. The new Tesla Roadster is supposedly coming by year's end while Ferrari's first EV has been confirmed for a 2025 launch.

Porsche is expected to green light a production version of the Mission X concept in the months to come. Over in China, BYD recently launched the Yangwang U9. Notable mentions include the Nio EP9, also from China, along with Japan's Aspark Owl. 2030 is still six years away, which gives other automakers plenty of time to hop on the electric performance bandwagon.

McLaren previews big changes with future design language.

New design signature draws inspiration from heritage and gives more freedom for future range expansion!

McLaren Automotive has previewed a new design language that will be used on all future vehicles – and it has been conceived to enable the brand to expand into new segments.

The new design trends will be represented by three exterior design signatures and a wraparound interior. They take inspiration from McLaren's previous road cars and motorsport heritage and will be the basis for all of the Woking firm’s future products.

The language is designed to allow for more differentiation between the styling of McLaren models than previously. That is likely to be crucial in the future as the firm looks to expand its range with both an SUV and electric models.

Former Bentley, Volkswagen and Aston Martin designer Tobias Sühlmann has recently returned to McLaren as its new chief design officer and led the development of the new design DNA.

“There’s a lot of potential in this brand and we’ve built up a strong design in the last 10 years starting with the 12C and P1,” said Sühlmann, who in a previous spell at McLaren led design of the Solus GT. “It means that we build recognisable cars: everybody can look at a McLaren and know it’s a McLaren.

“In the future, to take the next step, we need to change and move the brand forward. There will be a bigger portfolio and we need to look into different powertrain technologies. Are there more than two seats? Quite possibly, and that is something we need to look into. We need a form language that separates each model from each other.”

There is no indication on when the first McLaren to feature the new design language might be revealed and Sühlmann wouldn’t be drawn on future products or a timeline for them. But he said the design DNA "will build McLaren into a brand that delivers 60 years of motorsport heritage in incredible lightweight supercars and beyond. A new era, with new vehicles, more product differentiation, and with 'Performance by Design' at the heart of it."

Labelled ‘Performance by Design’, the new design language will be built around five principles – epic, athletic, functional, focused and intelligent – and will be represented in three key external design signatures.

At the front, all McLaren models will feature two symmetrical elements and a low nose. Sühlmann cites the McLaren MP4/4 Formula 1 car and the F1 road car as key examples – while the 750S features the same design based on the headlights.

The side view will be defined by a ‘performance line’ that is forward-leaning, with a dip at the mirrors to allow for maximum visibility. Future models are all intended to feature a short front and long rear overhang.

The rear end will be based around an ‘open’ back end – a trait inspired by the F1 – that allows for greater heat dissipation and adds a racing-style presence. Horizontal design elements will be used to create a greater feeling of width.

There are also new design signatures for the interior: all models will feature a driver-focused wraparound cockpit, but with an emphasis on making the cabin feel spacious through concave surfaces. Meanwhile, McLaren will continue to limit the number of buttons and controls featured on the steering wheel, instead locating controls close to the wheel on the dashboard.

Sühlmann also said McLaren will adopt a minimalist design. “You need a clear vision and message,” he said. “We want to push the boundaries of performance. We have a huge fan base and super-loyal customers and they love the brand because everything about our cars is authentic and real.
“There's no fake. Everything you see and feel on our cars is real. So if there's an opening, there has to be a reason for that opening. If there is no opening, then there was no need for that. We want to make it simpler and more powerful.”

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/04/m...glimpse-of-2-million-hypercar-coming-in-2026/

McLaren’s upcoming hypercar is code-named the P18, and it is set to land in the U.S. in the second half of 2026. When it arrives, it will feature F1-inspired technology, body work penned by McLaren’s new designer, Tobias Suhlmann, and it will ring in at around $2 million.

This and more information were revealed during a retailers’ meeting in Las Vegas on April 16, as reported by Autonews. (paywalled article)

The P18 will feature state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, with its body honed in McLaren’s new wind tunnel. This will include floating fenders to enhance airflow around the car, an active splitter below the “eye-socket” headlights that can open and close to reduce drag, and a large air scoop above the C-pillar. This scoop serves to draw cooling wind into the engine compartment and allows the driver to hear the V8 engine that will power the car.

The hypercar will also get a big carbon fiber diffuser that spans the entire width of its rear end. The aero element will sit below dual titanium exhaust pipes, and a McLaren P1-style active rear wing whose mechanism has been described as “jewelry-like” by dealers who were shown renders of the P18 ahead of its debut.

Despite all of those impressive aerodynamic design elements, McLaren is working hard to ensure that the design remains cohesive. “The [P18] has a lot of technical aspects of the Senna, but it’s a hell of a lot prettier,” a dealer told the publication. The hypercar will also ditch the brand’s trademark butterfly doors for top-mounted gullwing doors.

Although McLaren will produce just 400 examples of the hypercar, it will be an important model for the brand. The new V8 engine will power future models, and the P18’s design language will be applied to future vehicles, including the four-door model that the brand is considering.

"The McLaren P1 Successor Will Reportedly Get a Brand-New V-8!

McLaren reportedly gave details of the new hypercar at a meeting with dealers in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Excepting the V-6-powered Artura and the track-only, V-10 Solus, the modern iteration of McLaren Automotive has always used a twin-turbo V-8. Derived from a 1990s Nissan racing engine, the V-8 in 3.8 liter and 4.0 liter forms powered everything from the MP4-12C to today's 750S. It's been a source of criticism for the company. It builds lots of different models, but they all feel similar as a result of the widely shared engine.

A dealer source told Automotive News the P18's V-8 is a "new ground-up design" unrelated to the old V-8, and the Artura's 120-degree V-6. In the P18, the V-8 is paired with a hybrid system that's apparently 70 percent lighter than what's in the Artura. Output should be over 1,000 horsepower."

This doesn't explicitly mention the P18, but I'm posting this here anyway, because the use case for low volume of production, where this technology is generally used, hints at this being the limited halo car and not McLaren's "regular" models.

McLaren Automotive has announced a multi-year collaboration with California-based industrial digital manufacturing company Divergent Technologies, Inc. (Divergent). The collaboration will further develop the usage of additive manufacturing to enhance vehicle performance, sustainability, and production efficiency.

Divergent’s unique approach to the design and manufacturing of complex structures will allow McLaren to integrate new and more complex designs into its vehicle architecture, whilst achieving better manufacturing efficiencies and supporting a more sustainable supply chain.

Initially, McLaren Automotive will utilise the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPSTM) to additively manufacture chassis components for its next generation supercars, allowing McLaren to further reduce weight and improve dynamic performance - all areas which are core to the McLaren DNA.

The agreement marks the beginning of a relationship between the two companies with the shared objective of furthering adoption of DAPSTM in the automotive industry to deliver transformational vehicle design and performance to customers.
