P1 [Hot!] McLaren To Unveil New Supercar In Paris: P1 is F1 Successor

The McLaren P1 (codenamed P12) is a flagship sports car produced by McLaren Automotive. It is the second installment in McLaren's Ultimate Series after the McLaren F1. Considered to be the spiritual successor to the F1, the P1 was one of the first high performance sports cars to be introduced incorporating hybrid technology; the Porsche 918 Spyder having begun taking orders prior to the P1 and the LaFerrari introduced alongside it.

McLaren has announced it will unveil a new supercar at the 2012 Paris Auto Show taking place later this month, and to whet our appetites has released this sole teaser image. The automaker also states that the next chapter of its brand’s story will be told at the Paris event, which will actually be the first time that McLaren will be presenting at a major international auto show.

Though there’s been no mention of what car is featured in the teaser, it’s widely speculated that it is in fact that highly-anticipated McLaren F1 successor. The silhouette of the new model can clearly be seen and looks very similar to our own preview rendering of the F1 successor, which itself was inspired by actual prototypes spotted testing in Europe.

The car in the teaser also appears to have been inspired by the lines of the current MP4-12C, though there are clear differences between the two.

McLaren’s F1 successor carries the internal code-name “P12” and is billed to be the most capable supercar on the market when it launches next year. Under its skin is expected to be the same MonoCell carbon fiber monocoque found in the MP4-12C, though with modification to accommodate a new Formula 1-inspired hybrid system.

There’s talk of a new V-10 engine appearing in the P12, though previous reports have suggested an uprated version of the MP4-12C’s V-8. Not much is known about the powertrain although it is expected to feature an energy-boost button and total output of around 800 horsepower or more. The full gamut of McLaren's go-fast chassis technology will also feature, including pushrod suspension, hydraulic anti-roll bars, adaptive dampers and F1-derived traction control. McLaren is also likely to install an updated version of its brake steer technology.

Pricing for the P12 is expected to top the $950,000 mark, making it near enough a million dollars. That's a steep price, to be sure, but with a largely carbon fiber structure combined with McLaren's famous performance and dynamics, it's sure to be one of the most incredible performance cars the world has yet seen. Depending on demand, production numbers are expected to lie somewhere between 300 and 500 units.

Whatever is featured in the teaser, it will be revealed in full on September 27, so we don’t have long to wait now.

P12 Viewed

Just came from a dinner at MTC to kick off the Windsor Castle Concours. After being made to leave all cellphones outside (and to ensure no pics, there was a burly looking security guy watching everyone look at the car) we split into small groups and in a cool new presentation room were shown the car that will be in Paris.

Unlike the first time I was shown this car, Ron told us that we were free to speak about what we saw (the last time I was only half-jokingly told I'd be killed if I discussed it). Seeing the car again, and this time under perfect lighting, all I can say is wow. It is mind blowing; the aerodynamic design elements are unlike anything seen before. The rear end has got to be one of the coolest looking things ever. Talking with Frank Stephenson, he was nearly giggling with excitement about Paris.

And in closing, I can only reiterate that it looks nothing like any of the renderings that are out there.

It does have a high central exhaust. The active aero is significant, but we were told that the car can achieve top speed without it.

Anthony Sherrif reiterated that it will be the fastest car in the world around a circuit, and that raw top speed was not as interesting as it was just about raw horsepower rather than prowess.

And yes, the front is amazing looking too...

Ok. I'm super intrigued. Paris isn't far away so I'm sure we'll see a press release in the coming two weeks, if not earlier given that people are free to talk about the car.

Wasn't McLaren revealing the F1 successor at Monaco? I heard something like that but saw nothing.

Yes, I said it. But it was only shown to some very exclusive personalities. It was not public.

This fictional unveiling has been brought to you by InsideMcLaren, McLarenLife, FerrariChat, and a number of other false and accurate sources.

We’ll know how far off, or close, we are on the 27th.

The Paris Motor Show is getting closer so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that new details about the McLaren F1 successor have leaked in addition to digital artist speculatively "connecting the dots" for therecent teaser image. The P12 will probably be powered by a modified version of the 3.8-liter V8 engine in theMP4-12C which will pump out 803 hp (599 kW) at 9,100 rpm. It will also be fitted with the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that should provide an additional 160 hp (119 kW) for a grand total of 963 hp (718 kW).
The report is indicating that the new supercar will have a curb weight of less than 2,700 pounds (1,225 kg), while the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint will be done in 2.8 seconds. It should be able to do the quarter mile in 9.1 seconds at 161 mph (259 km/h), while the top speed is somewhere around 239 mph (384 km/h).
The McLaren P12 is tipped to get active aerodynamics and will get a “spectacular” design. Plans are to make only 500 units of the supercar and each will be built according to the needs of the customers who will be fullfilled by the people at McLaren Special Operations, the same team that worked on the peculiar X-1.
At this point, these are only rumors so we’ll have to wait until the end of the month when the car will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. It might be named MP4-24C while prices could start from about $1,390,000.

My thoughts, but troll mode OFF. :D

Please let me troll once more and share my guru opinion :P
Design wise I'm more interested in what I did in the toilet than in this car after seeing how it looks...
Biggest disappointment for me... like ever :(
