Smartphones [Hot!] Apple iPhone 5S and 5C

I'd love to try something different but like most who's entire household has Apple products be that iPads, iPods and iPhones we are sharing music, apps, etc and stuff like FaceTime reinforce our commitment to Apple. I've personally held off changing my iPhone5 for the 5S at the moment but have ordered one up for one of my managers and will see how much different it is before making that jump but if I were totally honest I feel the iPhone is no longer the revolutionary product it once was and they really need to make a major change next time round or they will be left behind by either Samsung or Microsoft I reckon.

Apple Sells Record-Breaking 9 Million iPhones in 3 Days

Apple sold 9 million new iPhone 5c and 5s iPhone models over the first weekend of its launch, the company announced on Monday. This was also the first weekend that iOS7 was available, and the company reported that 200 million iPhones are now running on the operating system. That’s twice as many phones as last year’s iOS6 launch, which reported about 100 million updates in its first weekend. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the sales were “our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales.”

The company also sold out of the 5s model, which means people looking for the coveted new gold color will have to wait for the next shipment. Apple did not break down how many 5s and 5c units were sold. With the 5s unavailable for pre-order, consumers spent the weekend waiting in line to purchase the newest model — a typical sight these days when it comes to new Apple model launches. But the 9 million figure beat analyst sales expectations of 5 to 8 million and nearly doubled first weekend sales of the iPhone’s previous iPhone 5 launch, which sold 5 million. Apple stock was up 6 percent in pre-market trading following the sales announcement.

Going, Going, Gone: Apple’s iPhone 5S Is Sold Out

Apple has sold out of all models and colors of it new iPhone 5S device less than 48 hours after it was released last Friday morning. According to inventory information from the Online Apple Store0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp, all variations the flagship iPhone are currently out of stock in all 11 countries that the device was released in this weekend, reports Apple Insider. According to Apple’s0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp online stores, none of the iPhone 5S variations are expected to ship before next month. Many analysts, including Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, predicted that the iPhone 5S would be in short supply due to production constraints. Jefferies analyst Peter Misek wrote several weeks ago that Apple’s suppliers are encountering “terrible” yields on the new fingerprint scanner.

Although all colors of the iPhone 5S are currently sold out, various reports and online resale prices seem to indicate that Apple’s gold-colored iPhone 5S was by far the most popular choice for consumers. Although many industry watchers predicted that the gold-colored iPhone 5S would be popular in Asia, it appears that the worldwide popularity of this particular color caught Appleoff guard.

According to unnamed supply chain0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Apple’s suppliers have been asked to increase their production of gold-colored iPhones by one-third in order to meet this unexpected demand. Although the various gold-colored iPhone 5S models were the hottest items, the other colors and models of the iPhone 5S also soon sold out. Apple Insider reports that the 64GB “Space Gray” iPhone 5S was the second-highest seller after the gold-colored models, while the silver-colored models appeared to be the least popular. Although Apple’s inventory shortage may negatively impact its overall launch weekend sales, many analysts0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp are predicting that the Cupertino-based company will still beat last year’s iPhone launch sales numbers of 5 million units, thanks to new markets like China and the addition of the iPhone 5C.

Lots of stock available here down under! I wonder how real these shortages are and how much is actually deliberate marketing hype? I don't see the point in the 5S when the 5 with IOS7 is so good.

Marketing at work. I remember back when iphone 5 was released in Sydney, people didn't have problems getting one. 3 of my friends just walked into three different shops across Sydney and got one within the launch week.

Not so sure about that. It may be marketing, but Apple has been saying they had supply problem before the 5S even came out. I know they were looking for new suppliers in the case of the screens considering their issues with Samsung.

Either way some folks are benefiting from this shortage...

Consumers are bidding thousands of dollars on eBay for hard-to-find gold iPhones. On the same day that Apple announced that it had sold over 9 million iPhone5S and iPhone 5C handsets, essentially selling through its entire initial stock, bidding for the hard-to-find handsets went from active to insane on eBay, with one gold iPhone 5S handset eventually selling for the scarcely believable sum of $10,100.

Disappointed consumers have started turning to auction sites to get their hands on what is quickly turning out to be this year’s must-have smartphone and it appears that they are being motivated in part by industry whispers that the gold version of the 5S handset (the flagship phone is also available in silver and a color that Apple calls ‘space grey’) is only going to be made in very limited quantities -- Business Insider claims that some countries and network carriers were not given any gold handsets to sell and that even in its biggest existing market -- i.e., the US -- Apple stores in some cities had as few as 20 examples in total to sell.

Apple has said that it is ramping up production of the gold 5s to meet demand, and a quick glance at the company’s website shows that online orders will be honored in roughly one month. Nevertheless a brisk trade in handsets is being done on eBay where the devices are selling on average for $2000 -- four times the in-store price. A lot of three phones currently stands at $4500 with two days left to run until the auction closes. The gold iPhone might be rare at this particular moment in time but soon there will be more available devices than there are consumers willing to buy them.

Apple has already sold 9 million handsets in just over three days, 1 million fewer than Samsung sold of its latest flagship the Galaxy S IV, however it has taken 28 fewer days to do so. Samsung took a month to hit that figure and at no point were its loyal band of consumers forced to turn their attention to online auction houses to fill the tech void in their lives.

I thought Sharp and Sony makes the screen for apple, and Samsung makes the processor (confirmed). Currently Apple has no choice but to stick with Samsung because nobody else can meet Apple's list of demands. I also don't see why journalists kept over simplifying things by using these figures and make comparison based on them.

How many years has Apple been doing this now? Can a company such as Apple keep getting the supply wrong at every single i phone launch?

That would have been a good reason to buy the 5S. It's just whenever you believe people can't be any stupider, someone comes around to prove you wrong. I really should keep that in mind when the iPhone 6 comes out.

So true.... I was thinking the same thing especially after hearing that someone purchased one for $10,000 (gold iPhone 5S) on eBay.

What makes it so stupid is that the phone will be available again in October.

We are witnessing the birth and blossoming of a new sect. It's a sociologist's wet dream.

have a blue iphone5c waiting for me at home when i get back from my holiday. looking forward to having a high quality plastic phone that i don't have to worry about getting smashed to bits with a fall.
