Looks like the new version of Toyota's Prius is due to be released at the LA Show on 16 November 2022.

Some teaser shots released. Certainly looks like a more striking design.

This version looks to be the most stylish yet. I'm interested to see what changes they will make to the powertrain and how efficient it will be.

Wow this looks very stylish, certainly much better than the previous model. The front lights give me Ferrari SF90 vibes. The angular taillights also look great. I like what Toyota has done here.

Some info from AMuS.

TOYOTA PRIUS 2023
223 hp new edition for the hybrid pioneer
LA AUTO SHOW
Toyota launches the fifth generation of the Prius. It comes as a plug-in hybrid with 223 system horsepower.

With the Prius, Toyota was one of the first car manufacturers to rely on hybrid drive technology. In the course of the global trend towards purely electric cars, the Prius fell further and further behind. In the summer of 2022, it fell completely out of the German model range.

Plug-in hybrid with 223 hp
On November 16, 2022, the Japanese unveiled the already announced fifth generation of the Prius, which will also be available again in Germany. The market launch date is summer 2023.

The new generation of plug-in hybrid system in the Prius comes up with more power and a larger battery for more electric range. The combination of a more powerful electric motor and 2.0-liter gasoline engine catapults the Prius into previously unknown performance regions – a whopping 223 hp are on the data sheet as system performance. This is also accompanied by significantly more dynamic driving performance. The new Prius manages the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. However, Toyota does not yet provide further information. Specifically, the petrol engine contributes 148 hp and the electric motor on the front axle 120 kW. The lithium-ion battery under the rear seat has a capacity of 13.6 kWh. It can be charged by cable or with the optionally available solar roof. Under optimal conditions, this should collect electricity for up to 1,250 additional kilometers per year.

Sportier, also visually
The new Toyota Prius is also much more dynamic. Gone are the grey mouse days. The aerodynamic design is raised to a directly sporty level by a coupé-like silhouette. In addition, the Prius became more compact. The vehicle length of 4.60 metres has been reduced by 46 millimetres, while the wheelbase has been extended by 50 millimetres to 2.75 metres. 22 millimeters wider and 50 millimeters flatter than its predecessor, the new Prius brings completely changed proportions into play. The front is characterized by a new hammerhead shark design, which makes the C-shaped headlights look directly evil. At the rear, a three-dimensional, linear light element emphasizes the progressive design and draws attention to the Prius logo.

To make all this possible, the Prius new edition has moved to the GA-C platform. This second Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) reduces weight and increases rigidity. The optimized placement of the battery and fuel tank lowers the center of gravity, which contributes to an active and direct driving experience.

Toyota announces the predominantly black interior as spacious and high-quality processed. The lower seating position is intended to further support the sportier driving experience. The ergonomically grouped displays and controls around the driver can be operated intuitively. The focal point is a screen placed far down in the center. The air conditioning is controlled via slim controls. By changing colours, the illuminated instrument panel informs about dangers registered by the Toyota Safety Sense assistance systems. In front of the driver, a seven-inch TFT-LCD screen puts all the important information directly in the driver's field of vision.

Also new in the Prius are two sockets that can supply external consumers with up to 1,500 watts.

RESULT
Toyota brings a new edition of the Prius. It completely says goodbye to the grey mouse image and appears much sportier with its coupé-like design and 223 system hp. However, Toyota does not yet provide important information on consumption and range.

The Prius is going to be discontinued in the UK :eek::eek:

"With our evolving UK product strategy and changing market conditions, we have taken the decision not to introduce the new generation Prius in the UK as the new model represents a very different proposition to its predecessor, alongside a clear shift in UK consumer demand towards more SUV style vehicles.

"Since its introduction as our first hybrid model back in 2000, over the years we have launched a much greater selection of self-charging hybrids, covering all the main segments of the market meeting a much wider customer base.

"Acknowledging its popularity in the private hire market, we are still able to cater for operators who continue to require our reliable hybrid technology, with the UK built Corolla Touring Sports estate.

"This shift in UK market conditions has been reflected in Prius sales figures – there were 563 sales in 2021, in comparison to just under 18,000 hybrid Toyota C-HR’s. Prius will continue to be sold in other European markets and will only be available as a plug-in version."

Wow... At last a Prius that even I would want to buy. I'd have the 2.0 Hybrid in white with the panoramic roof.

Well, well, the first of all that I would have no problem having, the stigma for those of us who like beautiful cars has been removed.

It is very nice in every way and does not seem to lose habitability with that high back door, an excellent transfer to reality of that seductive silhouette
Or how to make an "attractive egg" (within the possibilities)

This generation Prius looks fantastic and the added power is very welcome. Good for Toyota.

Holy shit, a handsome Prius. This is a "dogs living with cats" moment. Only foible: reverse lights placement. Et tu, Toyota?

What's going on here?
