A few remarks on the air vents which are known to be interior car designers' thorn in the side, because not only do they usually look cheap and fragile with multiple plasticky blades and rotary controls, they also need to be kept large enough to dispense high volume air if so needed.
  • The new very slim central vents are nearly invisible, the vent blades themselves certainly are, tucked behind a central trim piece that resembles the crystal-like texture seen on the 7er's interior shots
  • The side vents on the contrary remain as large as previously, but now blend well into the general design because their blades look like merely decorative elements
  • The vents' traditional directional tab and on/off button/rotary control are replaced by a single central knob which double functions as both directional tab and on/off control, which unclutters the overall design.
Certainly a strong hint, if not a direct reveal, of the 7er's air vent design (the 7er seems to have gone one step further as it's got rid of the big old school side vents as well).

This is a massive LCI and must have cost BMW billions. This LCI looks almost like a completely new model. Its going to take me some time to get used to that front, the split lights has me scratching my head. I like the changes to the rear light graphics, they look terrific.

I didn't expect such a huge change in the interior, its almost a completely new dash, with new vents and infotainment screen as well as center console.

I like the interior changes, BMW seem to be improving the perceived quality of all items in detail. The speaker grills above the left and right vents are quite unusual. They look like they could be 3D printed.

Good point. It's an extremely bold and ambitious LCI for what unlikely amongst their 5 top selling models.

I own a 2019 pre-facelift X7 40i. As I have mentioned previously, it has a very refined ride. Really nice. I can't believe the extent of this facelift. I can't recall any other facelift with this many substantial changes in fact. I was very concerned about the front after seeing the prototype photo's, however now that we can see the entire picture, I love it! It certainly is a bold direction, very contemporary, but it works.

The FL looks alright. But the pre-FL version was a good looking one, and the new face doesn't feel like an upgrade necessarily. The inside is much better, save for that piece of plastic over the glovebox with the glow lights.

These are the vents for the side windows. They look rather cheap and totally out of place. No other part there has the same pattern. The old one looks better.

The strange thing is - I can live with the new exterior design. But the interior... No buttons? I like buttons. Leave them alone! BMW has IX to make a "buttonless" car. And that cheap black plastic strip with backlight. I could expect such element in a Hyundai Creta. Not in an X7.

Those air vent buttons made of actual aluminium are a work of art. The movement of them is well damped and solid. Real quality.
