I chose the McLaren F1.
Why?
1) Introduced in the mid 1990's and it held the record for the world's fastest production car until only recently when the Koenesig CCX and eventually the Veyron beat it.
2) Designed by Gordan Murray to optimize the driving experience and performance. Design followed function, as opposed to the other way around (like the Veyron, where the overall shape of the car was approved BEFORE they got all the engineering issues sorted out). Things like a very light curb weight and a central driving position are some examples. Heck, it could carry 2 other passengers too, which no other supercar can do.
3) Probably the best naturally aspirated engine ever made (by BMW M). It's output was significantly higher than what Murray wanted for the car.
4) The car was so good that it competed in LeMans and won multiple races with very minimal modifications from the standard road car.
Sure, the newer 21st century supercars can outperform it in some areas, but the McLaren F1 was way ahead of its time when it was initially introduced.
