C-Class Grade the new C-class

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

Wow, I just don't like it. It looks too much like a different car brand's interior, like an Audi, or some Japanese brand, not an MB interior.
Mr. Chigga_Chan, I agree with your criticism but I must disagree that the interior resembles anything like an Audi's.

Way to conservative for my taste, inside & outside. But it's MB after all - so, perhaps for the MB customer base that's a bonus. :t-cheers:

I gave the car a 4.

The exterior design is very nice, many lines that give the car a sporty yet classy look. The rear desing could use a little more work, since there is something that doesn't work to me. I guess it should have a bit bigger lights and the whole boot should be raised up a bit!

The interior, is not up to my liking. I am not a fan of it, but it doesn't mean that it is bad or ugly. It seems to have quality material.

I'll give it a strong 4.
MB have succeded with the design. It looks ver nice, without being overdone. I like the interior and like the shape of the car. The only thing I really do not like, and why my grade isn't 5, are the wheel arches. I really can't stand them. Other then that, it's a very good looking car.

Not been a fan of some of the recent Benz models, but this one is different. I like it. It looks muscular and angular but still has that sophistication to it as well as looking compact and agile. It looks like a proper compact executive saloon. However, the interior isn't as good. It reminds me of Vauxhalls in certain places... and what happened to the flowing curved dashboards like on the E-class? But overall, I like it so I gave it 4.

3er interior is no where near as nice as the W204's, that's 4sure.

I beg the different. Some interiors looking better than the interior of E90 but the E90 also has some better looking interior then C. So the expression "thats 4sure" is in the eye of the beholder and not a fact.

i gave it a 3.
Its a very good car from the exterior stand point with the AMG package even though im not sure about the rear yet since i havent really studyed of seen it in real life. The interior im sure has great materials but i just cant get over the looks of it.
Like i said it is a very good car very advanced i guess you could say....but i dont like it one bit like most modern mercedes but i tried not to let that influence how i voted for the car just the pure tecnological stuff influenced it.

Uh-oh, of all the people to disagree with me...I'm doomed.

Anyways, I should probably explain where I'm coming from. Its not identical to an Audi interior for sure, but I think the elements that turn me off from Audi interiors are present here. I had to go back to worldcarfans.com and pull up all the A4, A6 and A8 interior shots to make sure I have the right images in my head.

BTW, when I got to the first shot of the C-Class in the WCF Photo album, it was this front angle shot of the C-Class with some AMG rims, and....I think I got pangs of wow from that pic. So maybe the whole numb feeling about the exterior was premature.

The two things I dislike the most that the A4 and somewhat the A6 share are the islands of plastic surrounding the buttons in the center console. But its more obvious in the C-Class because of the sharp angles of the upper dash dipping down. Also, the shots of the C-Class are in tan colors, while the Audi photos I'm looking at are Charcoal, so that might play into it as well. Another minor complaint is the interruption of the mid-line flow from one side to the other of the dash, again more apparent in the C-Class. Notice the A8 doesn't have this problem. Finally, the completely horizontal passenger dash leaves a desire for more flow and substance, something the A4/A6 does slightly better with more generous trimmings.

I might actually give the C-Class a 3.5, maybe even a 4 if I it can win me over after seeing it in the flesh.

Audi need a replacement for A4 ASAP. The car looks outdated compared to the competition. Even the new Lexus look more fresh than A4. Dont get me wrong I like A4 but compared to the competition its not attractive anymore. I think its the first time Im more attracted to a C-class than a A4.
Many here seem to agree looking at this poll

Exterior looks very good to me. The rear is really pleasing, like Wimmer said, it is sporty but extremely elegant. The front of the Avantgarde is very sporty. Just need to get ride of that huge star.

As for the interior, it seems to be the cause of the biggest concerns here. I agree that the interior could use more trim. I've been trying ot figure out for the past few days what it reminds me of, and to me it looks a lot like Volvo interiors. not that it's a bad thing.

Agreed on that one.

I think MB took a step near Audi quality now with this interior. I really like it.

Audi quality??
well my friend this is just one case.. but let me tell you this..
i just came back from a drive with my friends RS4.. its not even 1 year old..
the driver seat squieeks like crazy.. you cant take it if you dont turn up the stereo..he will have it looked on ASAP..
now i know this is just one case..but still ppl around here talk about Audi quality being like bullet proof well it aint.. and its been shown here with a top modell for over 700K swedish..

PS
We owned a 996 Carrera...haha poor guy.. he must felt very small getting owned by a audi:D

I think the A4 is fine the way it is. It's attractive not because it grabs attention, rather it has a subtle presence that is evergreen and contemporary. :)

I actually agree with Just_me. The B7 A4 was really more of a facelift of the B6 A4 rather than a completely new design. The overall design/shape of the A4 has not changed since the B6 A4 which was introdcued in 2001/2002.

With the 3 series and new C-class now introduced, the B7 A4 instantly has aged more in appearance, IMO. This is similar to what happened to the W203 C-class when the E90 3 series made its debut.

As to the topic of this thread, I'm not going to rate the new C-class until I've seen and sat in one IN PERSON.
