GMA GMA T.33

GMA is a British maker founded in 2017 by Gordon Murray. It builds analog, V12-powered hypercars like the T.50 and T.33. Official: GMA
1.3 million for a piece of crap that has zero comfort features and it's a death trap. Gordon Murray has got to be f#cking kidding.

Jeez mate, do you actually think before typing your thoughts here? EVs are crap, this car is crap...

Is that you Donald?

Gordon will probably make close to 600million pounds selling just 300 cars, that is probably a really good investment from his side on the V12 and light weight construction.

The T33 is very beautiful with sensual classic sports car looks, it does look more prettier than the T50 . That 4 spoke steering wheel though reminds me of something used to be in a Beetle in the 70s lol.

I don’t find the MC20 to be generic at all. I think it’s a great design - both subtle and dramatic in equal measure - because it’s well differentiated from the other mid-engined cars out there.
If you swapped the badges around on an MC12, Artura and Emira, and put them on the road, I don’t think many people would think that anything is odd. Although attractive, they lack emotion and look crafted by aero and mechanical engineers than designer.

However, because mid-engined cars carry strong connotations with Lambo and Ferrari, they are difficult for other manufacturers to get right. Over the recent 10-15 year, IMO, the R8 has been the only non-Ferrari/Lambo mid-engine car that ticks all the boxes: Wow factor, unique design without reference to other manufacturers, unmistakable and with no retro attributes.

Other honorable mentions include the 720s and the 918. However the latter is modern derivative of the iconic Carrera GT design.

The T.33 is a lovely design eventhough some may rightfully argue that it’s not very original. I look forward to seeing it in in different colours, maybes with a contrasting roof.

There’s only so much one can do with the mid-engined wedge so I feel this is a simplified analysis. You certainly wouldn’t be able to swop the Lotus badge onto the MC20 and pass it off as such. Sure, the Emira and Artura have more superficial similarity but side-by-side there’ll be a difference in proportion. If anything, the front 3/4 of the MC20 has an element of Jaguar-ness about it but then Jaguar don’t do sports cars. It’s the MC20’s flanks which I find to be most impressive - very distinctive. The point about “most people” is moot. Most people aren’t car people and this isn’t mostpeopleforum.com. ;) Most people can’t tell the difference between a front-wheel drive and a rear-wheel drive BMW so the nuances of mid-engined car design would be lost on them.

It’s good that you brought up the R8 and posted a pic of the original (and truly laudable) model. The R8 is an excellent example of how difficult it is to style a mid-engined car in order to sufficiently differentiate it. If the first generation was original and gorgeous, the second is just forgettable. I feel there should never have been a 2nd gen R8 - it would’ve made the 1st that much more special.

Disagree on Carrera GT vs 918 - they’re very different. One is a flat plank of a shape with a pointy nose and a pod over the cabin whereas the other has a decidedly sinusoidal flow to the design and a much less abrupt transition from cabin to the rear deck. If you see the two next to each other, there’s a considerable difference with the CGT being a distinctly ordinary design in comparison.

Circling back to the T.33, whilst it may be very pretty, it’s also pretty plain - a car best appreciated in isolation rather than parked alongside similarly priced metal and carbon. Of course, it’s the GMA design ethos and philosophical approach to lightness that sets it apart, but one can’t help but think that - looks wise - it’s just a bit too demure for that supercar meet. Best then, to go for the solitary approach to enjoyment, away from the crowds which is the way it should be after all…

Yeah. Audi nailed it with the 1st Gen R8. The successor wasn't a new or differentiated design. Meanwhile, the Italians don't appear to struggle with new designs. The Diablo, Murcielago, Gallardo, Hurecan and Aventador all look awesome and yet different.

Lambo don't struggle but Ferrari do, they haven't built an attractive mid engined sports car since the 458.

The side profile shot of the T.33 looks absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful proportions. Love that it looks so pure, with hardly any lines and no door handles. Check the front door extends all the way to the wheel arch. The wheel spokes look ultra slim.

^Reference full Federalisation for crash testing, emissions and I've found out noise related levels too for the FMVSS in the United States of America.

I remember hearing that number and I literally froze. Unbelievable!

But~

"GMA T.33 Supercar Will Be Fully Street Legal in the U.S., and More Variants Are Coming

Unlike the T.50, which will be brought into the U.S. under show-or-display restrictions, the Gordon Murray T.33 meets all emissions and crash requirements.

According to founder and supercar visionary Gordon Murray, it took a deep breath plus a $33 million investment to make his company's T.33 supercar meet all requirements to be street legal in the U.S.

The sizable extra investment means Gordon Murray Automotive's second car, the marginally less extreme 592-hp T.33, meets all of the lengthy Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), including all crash requirements. Creativity and novel solutions are not rewarded, and the T.50's center driving position is a no-go, which is why the T.33 has a standard two-seat arrangement. Both versions of the 4.0-liter Cosworth V-12 that power the two cars meet U.S. emissions standards, but drive-by noise and crash requirements are two key areas where the cars differ from a certification perspective, according to CEO Phillip Lee."

Etc continues.

£28 million GBP to USD it seems.

Anyway the levels of technical or engineering and investment needed is simply astronomical.~ And yes absolutely I know Engineering very well.

But circumnavigating the rules and regulations doesn't make products and production from other manufacturers any less admirable or any less sophisticated particularly as much of it is OEM to other suppliers anyway.

It's a subject I'm very keen on as it affects projects I'm tracking. It doesn't individually affect me personally, I'm not purchasing anything, I'm just interested in them as a whole and the Herculean efforts needed to bring these cars forth.

In the past few weeks I've discovered heaps of new information that needs digesting. But the rules and regulations are time consuming to sift through, but that's OK.
