Gallardo is Lamborghini's best-selling model ever

The Gallardo high-performance sports car is Lamborghini's best selling model in the brand's history, the company said on Thursday after celebrating the 3,000th Gallardo that rolled off its assembly line.

It eclipsed the previous record of 2,903 Diablos built over the course of 10 years.

"It's a reason for us to be proud that this goal was reached in less than 24 months," Lamborghini Chief Executive Stefan Winkelmann said in a statement.

£70k is a lot of money, you could buy an M5 with that money, so I can see why people would buy this 'little' 'underpowered' version!

It's amazing how many have been sold, and I have only seen a couple on the road! Lamborghini made the right choice joining VAG!

This is not that suprising at all. Before VAG took over Lambo and Bentley the companies only made extremly expensive cars costing at least 200k. VAG then decided to produce "cheap" Bentleys and Lamborgnins in order to made the companies more profitable. Judging by all the Continental GTs and Gallardos on the road it is pretty clear that VAG gone a great job.

There was no logic to any of that.

Firstly its a $100K difference in the real world. So it certainly doesn't mean they have Murcielago money.

500hp AWD is plenty for most, and the name and look is what people really want anyway.

Its a rare and not out of reach car, that puts people on another level. Classy and sporty. And the sales figures prove it.

Personally, i think its beautiful. And actually sometimes in pictures i like it more than the Murc.

I don't think someone who has made some job and earned like 200 k $ would buy such a car. It's not cheap to service it and the fuel is very expensive nowadays. So, IMO, people who don't have assured great life till their death don't buy these things...I said they can surely buy a Murcielago because IMO it's nicer..

If you think about it a Gallardo is not that much more expensive than a SL55 and if you can afford a SL you just throw out 10-20k more and voila, you have yourself a Lamborghini.

My friend , i make well into the $200K yearly, and though i like the Murc, and love the Roadster, i wont spend that type of money on the car. Gas is not an issue, the Gallardo gets real 5.5mpg and the Murc is under 4.mpg .And i am saying this from experience, besides the car is not cheap, and is all around more practical. If i had one it would be my daily car, i wouldnt leave it in the garage and take it out for a Sunday drive, thats what the Murc is for. The several people i know that own the Gallardo love it, wouldnt get the Murc, even though most can afford it. And they use it almost everyday to go out or just for a quick blast daily.

The Gallardo is a different car for a different market.


PS. Once your in Murcielago money many cars are available for you too.
