He’d be 40 by the time he effectively switches to Ferrari. I don’t know if he’ll find the necessary motivation to continue. The perspective of an 8th title seems to get farther & farther away. This move will most likely benefit the image & financials of both parties, but it remains to be seen if it will yield any remarkable performance.
For instance, upon return with Mercedes, Schumacher never managed to impress ever again, nor he managed to win a race. Alonso seems to be fighting on all fronts, but similarly, it barely makes a lasting impression. And Hamilton is simply not the type of driver that stays in F1 just for pure fun and nothing else more.
Ferrari is in a deep crisis and Vasseur barely managed to put a few things into order last year. They had perspectives to win in the last two seasons, but they failed in putting up a comprehensive strategy to succeed. The technical package did not help them either. There‘s not much optimism for a miracle set to happen in 2024 or 2025.
So, it looks that the odds are pretty much against a successful pairing between LH and Scuderia Ferrari. I am all but convinced it will work. 2026 couldn’t come sooner and when it does, it could well be too late for Hamilton, despite the fact that Scuderia could eventually come up with a successful winning formula.
