Lol...I use to be so "Benz" crazy back in the day. God help anyone who talked about Mercedes back then.

Used to be an active lurker at GermanCarFans in 2001. That was the year I got infected by the car bug and bought my first bran new Mercedes (E320). Until then for me cars had been there just to fill the need of getting from one place to another. This forum and it's predecessors is certainly a great home for a car enthusiast.

Ummm wow I had no idea soooooo many people have been around since 2000-2001. I joined in early 2003 and there were not very many members at all, I think so people are not telling the truth!
There are several members that would be great to hear from, Boz was awesome, Germanrulze (sp) was interesting, figures that one of the few girls would be banned for nudity, that is just wrong.
SDNL? hasn't post anything in years, who was the one who just came in and said goodbye and told the mods to delete his account?
I remember at Germancarfans there was a special area for those with 1,000 posts or more, everyone started posting crap to get there except me. I finally got to 1,000 and they closed that area.
Took a while for someone to tell me about the temp site and a while to tell me about this place, thanks.
Haven't been around here too much lately, focusing on different topics, but still come by every few weeks.

I registered back at the old GCF in 2001. I was a complete forum newbie back then, and it took me more than a year to start posting. I believe it was klier who posted something that set my blood boiling so that I just had to respond. 
It's sad that many of the old members are either not around anymore or not very active, but I can fully understand that there are things in life that are more important than any internet forum can ever be...

Oh man, I remember this! You were angry about that one if I remember correctly! They closed it like a week after you got there or something...
BTW, about this subject....I also remember HoH being the absolute post-King around there. He posted by far the most.

Although I officially joined the forum in 2006, I started visiting the site daily (GermanCarFans-->GermanCarForum-->GermanCarForum) in 2001 or so.
I do not remember the nicknames of people there but it was cool... I had no driving licence back then, yet thanks to GCF I was able to tell my father all about the BMW 7er when it was revealed.
I do remember very vividly how he was ordering it in 2001 October and I knew more about it than the salespeople.
Fast forward to 2012 and I visit the site at least 5 times a day. I might be in the office, I might be chilling in bed... I even consult one CEO of on of the Russia's largest automotive company. (He is also a member of GCF, but he registered for the same reason as I did in 2006 - he wanted to see all the images).
Thanks to all of you who contribute and make this site so special.

Bmwrules who is a colleague of mine, still after all these years, also bought his 1st BMW (a 3 series)in 2001 and we spent a scary amount of time on the CGF site at work feeding our German Car frenzy. Life situations at the time made it easier to focus on one's personal interests at work than at home with so many other responsibilities and time taking tasks. He is on his 4th BMW now and probably getting his 5th one sooner than later. I guess the reason we did not join at the time was that it was one thing to read car forum discussions at work and another thing to start posting as well knowing that your activity is logged. Also, the "cast of characters" on the old CGF forum seemed like an established and tight group of friends while when the new site started, it was new, and therefore felt like we're all on a bit more of an equal footing so that may have made the difference at the time. It's amazing how time flies.
) I missed you guys, cannot believe I've been gone so long!

yes everyone was posting crap to just get to 1,000 and I refused to back then, I made every post count for something. I think it was because everyone was posting crap that it was shut down.

Not everyone was posting crap, and it was a great community. They shut it down because GCF became WCF, and they decided to ditch the forum in the process. Now I believe they have some kind of system back, but the old members are gone.
