Forbes Magazine - 10 Clunkers To Avoid

Because there are people out here with back yards as big as your country.
Do you know how many bricks it takes to make a patio that large? Can't haul that in a VW.

Well, no, that is just silly "our shit is larger"... we have very few of these mega pickups here in Sweden and I think the reason is that people here who have a lot of thing that needs moving have a real truck. No tradition of oversized pickups.

Having a real truck is far more stupid than having a pick-up. A pick-up can be used daily by anyone in the family and doesn't require a special license unlike a real truck. To say that pick-ups are stupid and a waste yet say that using a real truck is better is WAY more hypocritical.

I think the stupid part is to use such a vechicle for other reasons than towing something heavy. Both real trucks and oversized pickups are obviously needed.

Furthermore, many of the oversized pickups are so heavy that they would count as a truck that requires a special license. That shows what size our smaller trucks are and it is trucks this size that are often used by people here who have these transportarion problems.

You couldn't possibly understand. Let's just put it this way, you'd have to live here and be brought up in the culture to understand this stuff. :t-cheers:

I think so too. It is much more of a way of living than anything else. That is easy to understand. But used as a means of transportarion for your ass, they all deserve a mention on lists like these.

An attitude or way of life? Not really, it's usually done out of necessity. Anyone who does a lot of towing will own a truck, and then use it for transportation as well. It's more cost effective, intelligent and affordable that way.

Not everyone can afford to buy two cars for exclusive use by themselves, for themselves.

Exactly. A lot of people who's company gives them a car to drive will sell their own personal vehicle and drive the company car. In terms of a few people who I know personally and worked in construction, they just sold their beater and drove the company truck everywhere. Since they worked 5 sometimes 6 days a week, they didn't give a crap if they went to go buy groceries on the 7th day, plus it makes carrying tons of groceries a lot easier.

On a more funny and sad note at the same time, the guy who I bought my M3 from sold me the car because his company gave him a Toyota Van to drive and reimbursed him for gas and could drive unlimited miles. So he just used that to drive everywhere and the poor M3 was just sitting in his garage for 6 months because he was initially asking too much. LOL :D

Wow, thing are really done differently over there. Driving one of those oversized trucks should never be regarded as economic... On the other hand, you guys pay almost nothing for the gas so, why bother?

I understand your points. That is not the issue, people cant afford a modern, efficient car for personal transport and a work vehicle for work purposes. That is the issue.

Believe me, the minimum wage out here is shit, so gas might be cheaper from your perspective but it's still expensive from ours.

And yes, people can't afford to keep two cars, that is economic suicide if you don't make bank. The insurance out here is SO f__king high that it just doesn't make sense to have a car that you don't drive as much. So yes, it is quite economic to get rid of a car you don't need for a car that you use everyday. Like I said, if you drive a pickup truck 6 days a week, and to keep a car to go and get groceries on the 7th day is probably the dumbest way to spend money because you have to pay insurance on that car, licensing fees, etc.

But then again, I don't expect you or anyone who doesn't live here to understand this so let's just drop this matter.

It's the overall consideration about money and costs that make it 'economic' (not considering fuel). It's cheaper to run one truck that gets a bit lower gas mileage than to own, operate and finance two separate personal cars.

Go up to Oregon where minimum wage is $10 an hour and unemployment is over 20%:usa7uh:

Minimum wage just went up a few weeks ago across the country, should help unemployment numbers go up.

It's $8 here, but an apartment is still around $1000 a month. Unempoyment is around 13% I think. Not much room to play with. LOL
