Don't think the plastic doors are going anywhere, it's the camo that makes you think that. They will likely not be transparant however...

They'll look like any normal doors - colour coded. That is unless BMW want their cars to be like the iPhone 4 where by you need by default to buy a cover or bumper for it to protect it from scratches.

I just wish the folks in BMW would also throw in the I-6 from the e46 m3 or the V8 from the e92 m3. If it's light enough, it really doesn't need more power than that.

(i know it's not going to happen and i'll be accused of being a dreamer and/or delusional, but it'd would truly be epic if they'd do that.)

The i8 looks really good. But a BMW should above all drive well. It could be a very nice car if it had a traditional NA powertrain, I6 or V8 or even I4 if the car is really light. By the way for being a hybrid, 1480 kg is light, thanks to CF.

PS: Does the car on the spy shot have CF roof? Or is it a glass roof?

This would be nice, unfortunately it won't happen.

With the i8 you will be able to personalise your i8 to your liking so if you want color coded doors , or carbon door panels then it will be possible. Another item being worked on is that glass doors can stay but the lower half will not be transparent but tinted and reinforced like the glass tailgate of the VW Up!. You will be able to order your i8 with a sci-fi white interior with either blue, silver, red or black piping.

The overall look is around 97% from the i8 Concept Car which the i8 shows the metamorphisis of production reality from the original Vision EfficientDynamics Concept. Especially the front , side and rear which have been crash-tested for series production.
The wheels will change however , with options reflecting the aerodynamic attributes of the car to go with the sci-fi looks.
But the i8 and i3 will look like nothing else on the road and that will be one reason of many for its success.

BMW's vision of the Smart. :D

I can't wait to see it released but I doubt in the UK it will take off enough to actually see one outside of a showroom.

Latest spy shots reveal production-ready version of petrol-electric BMW i8 supercar
The BMW i8 is edging nearer to production, as these spy shots prove. In the past, the petrol-electric supercar has been revealed with styling features that aren’t feasible for production, but this camouflaged prototype gives the best hint yet at what to expect when the car goes on sale in 2013.

The glass doors of the concept look to have been dropped, the sharp nose has been smoothed slightly and the headlights have been moved further forwards in the bonnet. Other touches like the wing mirrors and rear bumper have been tweaked too.

While the original Vision EfficientDynamics concept was powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and electric motors, the most recent i8 concept swapped the diesel for a four-cylinder petrol engine with 220bhp, and it’s likely to stay that way for production.

The petrol engine is mounted at the rear and drives the rear wheels, while the 129bhp electric motor is mounted underneath the bonnet and drives the front wheels. Working together the motors provide a total of 349bhp, allowing the i8 to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds.

Lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic construction helps to counter the weight of the car's batteries, and the petrol-electric supercar should weigh around 1.5 tonnes. That kerbweight also helps the i8 to achieve fuel economy of around 100mpg and CO2 emissions of 70g/km.

A full charge of the batteries will take close to two hours, and BMW has claimed in the past that the overall range will be around 400 miles.

When the i8 goes on sale in 2013 it will cost around £150,000. It will be the flagship model in the BMW ‘i’ range, which will also include the small i3 electric city car.

Thanks Human.

Still think the butt looks a little busy, otherwise outstanding! Price point speculation?

Autocar or maybe Autoexpress ran a piece on it in their latest mag, suggested price will be £150K. That's some serious dosh considering the performance that kind of money can get you. Don't think I'll be seeing one over here any time soon. :(
