Thanks Martinbo. Please be advice some cars like the Astra are on top version (GTC) and the Renault for example, in one pic is the 5 door and on another the 3 door, but you get the overall idea.

Regards

I problem I have with the 1er (apart from its ugly face) is its proportions, especially side profile which is odd. Due to engine placement the nose is long but where as with the rest of their models (3/5/6/7) have a boot lid to balance the bonnet length with the 1er it doesn't and this effects it's appearance to me. Now some can claim this is a worthwhile compromise for superior handling but there are countless great fwd cars which are both entertaining and cracker handlers so is it a worthwhile compromise? I don't think so.

The segment is all about packaging which is why it's almost exclusive fwd. Mercedes and VAG understand this and I'm sure BMW will eventually get the message.

This is becoming ridiculous, Deckhook do your bit for the online community and start a 1er vs A3 vs A-class poll please.

And PLEASE! stop derailing this thread: View Poll Results: new AUDI A3 vs new MB A-CLASS

And yes, the A3 is doing f-ken D- in this thread, poll results (time of my post) is AUDI A3 38.33% vs MB A-CLASS 61.67%

Edit: It's small things that piles up and leads to one huge load of crap, no wonder we loose excellent contributors, as discussed in the How Long Has It Been thread.

Who ever is Mod for this thread, we need to stay on topic AND I promise to contribute in doing my part.

Every thread seems to end up in a metaphorical brawl in the pub car park with people trying to impose their views on somebody else and convince everybody that they are right.

All three cars (A3/A Class/1 Series) are good. Buy whichever one you prefer.

^ You can not deny the facts Human, this segment is almost exclusively fwd and it's that way for a reason. Who wins this poll is irrelevant to the the fwd is the perfect solution this class of car.

Other have their reasons of why the 1er doesn't look good, I only gave my opinion on why I dislike it.

P.S.
Go ahead mate and do an A3 vs A-class vs 1er poll. Not sure of the outcome or how genuine some members will cast their vote but it sure would be interest to see the results.

Alright, and another one. This thread is about A3 vs A-Class, so let's focus on these two cars (this includes you, Tumbo). Maybe somebody can start a new thread including the 1-series as this thread clearly shows people still wanna express their view on this car.

Best regards,

I'm not the one hooked on the F20 in a Audi vs M-B poll. Admittedly I agreed with Klier on a specific point in discussion. The fact is this poll has the two newest competitors in this segment one of them is conservative, familiar yet screams PREMIUM and the other is a fresh take, from a MPV-like idea to a hot hatch contender (IMO that is). The F20 had it's fair share of discussion when launched, it sells like hot cakes = it's already successful, not included in this poll, give it a rest and give the newcomers their fare share!

Back on topic:

Oh, and apart from a super premium interior i.e R8, the A3's cabin is the best looking in the Audi lineup right now! I raved about the A-class seats that's until I saw the A3 S-line's sporty buckets, damn fine!

:t-cheers:

No problem. Let us make a pole with all three but once we get specs.

I think the 1 Series is ugly, but it wouldn't put me off buying one.

What could put me off is the fact that it IS rear wheel drive. I live on a bit of a hill (there a few in Holland), and having the engine over the driven wheels is a big advantage in bad weather. Would I care if a FWD car isn't quite as sporty? Not at all. These cars are hardly track day specials. They're utilitarian most of the time. I couldn't give a toss what the handling was like on the limit. What I care about is fuel economy, a comfortable cabin, the ability to park easily, and a reasonable price. When I'm driving a supercar, then I will swap the criteria around, so I wouldn't care what the fuel economy was like, whether it was easy to park, or whether it has a comfortable cabin. But I would want good handling.

To think handling, driving satisfaction and RWD is the be all and end all the WHOLE time is just misguided. I strongly think the vast majority of people couldn't give a toss, as the 80% of 1 Series drivers who think their car is FWD will testify.

I agree with what you say but it cannot be so for everybody. When I drive to work or to school I like having fun on the road. And for me RWD is fun. I like sliding around the corners to taking tight corners fast. I also do it now, but not in the same way, as my car is FWD.

For Gods sake. I left the 1er outside this poll, cause of a reason! Get back on topic now!

Then don't start badmouthing the 1er in your own thread, and expect it to pass :)

To keep it on topic (I don't even want to talk about the 1er), I've done a full 180 on the A3 interior. It's beautiful. Much better than the A class which has some parts that look really weird (like the cheap TomTom wannabe. Can't say there's any iPad inspiration there, it looks tacked on and cheap).

In the leaked interior shots the interior looked weird and dull, now I can see the clean premium simplicity I so much love in a German car. So solid.

Please no, that would be a very poor show for BMW :D ;)
Ooh sorry, that was off topic about the 1er ;)

Somehow, someway, BMW seems to work its way into every single thread.

To get this back on track, I'm wondering how the AMG A class will do with its all wheel drive system against the Audi RS3. I'm hoping AMG goes crazy with it and adds wider fender flares, and a menacing stance.

Yes, I am well aware there are people who want driving satisfaction in this class. If you actually read what I wrote I acknoweldge this. My point is that some people seem to think all that matters is driving satisfaction.

If you go back and read what I said you will understand this.

If somebody wants a poll then why don't they set one up?

I guess this is going to me.

When I wrote that post, I was working on something, so I didn't really have the time, to spend some time and set up a comparison thread.

And now that I am writing this, it's 12.06am and only 20 minutes ago I came back from a lesson. I am about to go die on my bed.

So, if someone has some free time and energy, can he set up a new poll thread, pretty please?

Giannis, what do you want from me? Do you actually think I am so stupid I don't understand that, or do you think that what I think is the same for everyone else? Or you you want me to make a politically correct post so that I can both please the Audi crowd and the MB crowd?

I of course full well know the definition of premium is different to anyone. For me, FWD is not premium nor will it ever be. And a FWD A6 or even A8 is indeed beyond pathetic if you ask me. Quattro or bust, it'ts that simple really. The A6 is a premium car and the FWD part is a little less premium, let's keep it at that then.

Advice to you, and everyone actually:

Use these words more often: "In My Opinion"

:)

So some think the BMW 1 Series cannot compete against the Audi A3 and the Mercedes A Class in terms of design? See it to yourself.

:eye8:

If only it had LED blinkers, LED headlights, LED brakes and LED reverse light.

Now just show us the face and butt on that one, or better yet, the normal guise which 99% of sold models will bear. :)

Neither the A3 or A-Class were presented in the normal guise, so when can really compare. As an American, have you seen an 1er in person? It doesn't look that bad, although it isn't a looker.

I actually did see one when I was in Paris last year. It was before they launched the model.

I think the front is one of the ugliest in the business, the rear is nondescript and bland (yet not "ugly" necessarily), and the sides look fine and dandy for a car that's forced to work within the boundaries of this segment.

I think I just puke in my mouth a little. Make it go away. Looks like they forgot to fix it after they ran the car into the crash test wall.

The A Class looks much better.

Whatever, that pic shows, do you hear Deckhook, that the problem of the 1 Series is not the layout and thus its shape or the proportions but simply its design, which has absolutely nothing to do with with the fact it is has FR-layout. On the contrary I think it has the best proportions of all three.
