X6 First Details Emerge On BMWs Next X6

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).

Back to the future...Not sure what's up here....F16 X6 has shown up in full button down camo (Top Photo)...more camo than when the car broke cover/ debuted in Oct 2013 (Middle Photo). The car had recently dropped camo to level of bottom photo...I'm thinking Plug In Hybrid...although no tell tell "Hybrid Test Vehicle" stickers....yet..... Stay tuned. Thanks. PalBay

I'm thinking this is going to be another evolutionary re-design, like the X5. New lights and bumpers for the exterior, but overall it'll look similar to the current generation.

It looks as if they changed the side profile to yield more rear headroom. Looks less coupe-like to these eyes.

Yes there is a few inches added on to the wheelbase so we can stretch the roofline , accommodate decent rear headroom but still give it that X6 dynamic outline.

eh? The X6 is a sister car to the X5. The wheelbase from the E70 to the F15 X5 remained unchanged(2,933 mm). Why would the new X6 get a change when the new X5 didn't??

Let's be honest, the new X5 and X6 carry over the previous floorpan. The main body change for both the new X5 and X6 is a slightly longer front overhang(+ ~30 mm), and a blunter nosed one, to meet stiffer pedestrian impact regulations. There has been no wheelbase change.

Not really.

The roof line is even steeper from the A-pillar down (towards the back), the greenhouse is shallower / not as tall as on E71 X6. The shoulder line is also steeper - eating more into front wheel arch. Also the second (lower one) character line is more prominent & more curvy than on E71, giving the F16 X6 more wedge-like silhouette. All these features give the new X6 more stretched look (although the car is not that much longer at all; just a friction compared to E71, while the wheelbase length is actually the same), resulting in more sporty elegant appearance compared to E71, which appears to be bulky from the direct side view. Also the sitting position (especially in the rear is a bit lower), therefore more head room is available.

The more bulky & compact look of X4 is more comparable to the current X6 looks ... while the new X6 is a step further towards more sporty elegant & upscale appearance. Although the car is still HUGE & massive in every possible way & dimension, just like E71!

Too me it looks MUCH better than the current X6. Much more coupeish. It's like comparing current generation of 6er to the previous one; or current F32 4er Coupe to the E92 3er Coupe.

:)

Air suspension is mandatory if you ask me. Look at that gap, for sure it is there to serve dual purpose but why stick to front Steel springs on SUVs ? At least make it an option.

Lowering the car would result in turning it into ... 5er GT xDrive, character wise. Seriously.

The point of SAC is that it sits SAV-like high. The BMW 5dr hatchbacks that sit lower - offering semi-commanding sitting position - are called BMW Gran Turismos (and are internally known as "Progressive Activity Sedans").

So, every feature & characteristic has its precise purpose. Even the high ground clearance. Otherwise there would be too much overlapping between SACs & GTs.

The only thing that is not convincing me is the front end. I don't like that it is so similar to the X5. Also, it's not that the F15 X5 has the best looking front end in the world. BMW should become more aggressive with some design cues, like the kidneys or the headlights. I hope what we see with the new concept leads towards that direction.

I like BMW strategic 3D thinking. Don't just offer same sausage in different lengths, also different heights.

To me i think they have limited themselves with the connecting light-grille arrangement. there isn't much you can do if they have to have the headlight joined to the grille unless it's something very radically different, which won't happen.

My documents for the X6 add a 3. Could be a typing error. I apologise in advance.
