McLaren excluded from World Championship

McLaren have been excluded from the 2007 and 2008 Formula One World Championships.


The Woking team, who faced the World Motor Sport Council for the second time in Paris today after new evidence came to light, were found guilty of using Ferrari's information in this year's Championship.

And the punishment is their exclusion from this year and next year's World Championships.

If true that would be a major PR fiasco for McLaren, and even more for Mercedes-Benz.

Will McLaren ever come back? What will happen with MB - are they banned as well? Will MB found their own factory-F1-team? How will the other teams react?

So many questions ...


PS: somethin is going on since AMS & RTL (with very good inside sources) are reporting "development at FIA does not look good for McLaren-Mercedes"

F*ck! I didn't what this to happen. Now where does this leave the drivers?

I hope that there will be an appeal because I'm disgusted that Ferrari will win both this and next years championship. Mclaren will lose all their sponsors now. Alonso and Hamilton are bound to change teams now.

It is shocking.

Stupidly over-punished by the Ferrari International Assistance, as they did not benefit from the stolen info.

Now they will have to exclude Renault for 10 years, because McLaren seems to be able to prove that they spyed too, and used it to develop their car, and to punish Ferrari for the illegal floor.

What about Toyota, not punished 2 years ago for the same facts???

The FIA is shockingly Ferrari-biased.

It will be the war now, Dennis will make everything to destroy the other teams.

I've heard that Mercedes will try to buy the rest of McLaren and run in 2009 under the Mercedes name only...

It could be the end of McLaren.

But Dennis will made an appeal against that decision, and sue Ferrari under civil court for the reputation damage too...

The war has begun, and McLaren does not want to die alone...

I'd say that either someone jumped the gun and posted a pre-prepared headline or they were hacked by a joker.

What with Ferrari and their illegal flex-floor. Can someone explain that to me? Can Mclaren go after them for that?

The punishment is very harsh. Two freaking championships.. How the hell is a F1 team supposed to survive through that. It's impossible. This while punishment is designed to destroy Mclaren and nothing else.

Well planet f1 now says that fia propose mclaren expulsion.and that the drivers may still be able to race the team wont get points but drivers will....

I saw that clarification on autosport as well. The exact punishment is still being discussed, which leads me to believe that the drivers keep points.

Yes maybe but McLaren will stop developping the car if they can't win anything with it!!

It may will take one or two races for F$$$*i to fully take the advantage, but they will win both driver and carmaker championship. Even this way...

Maybe not driver, effectively, Lew and Ferd have a great advance though, could it be that one of them win?
