3 Series (F30) F30 M Sport Interior - What's the Story?

The sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series consists of the BMW F30 (sedan version), BMW F31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') and BMW F34 (fastback version, marketed as 'Gran Turismo') compact executive cars. The F30/F31/F34 generation was produced from October 2011 to 2019 and is often collectively referred to as the F30. For the sixth generation, the coupé and convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series nameplate.

Now full-blown obsessing over every permutation of the F30 and noticed something odd - The M Sport originally was shown with alcantara seats and hex-stitched door inserts. Nothing like this is being offered in the US, basically the M Sport interior just nets you the M Steering wheel, Hex Aluminum trim and a black headliner.

Anybody know if this offered at one point in time or did it never make it to the US?

Example:

They're not offered in the U.S. market, I think the only way to get them would be to retrofit them. IIRC, in European markets, those are the standard seats that come with the M package

Yea it sucks. Some one at BMWNA decided we only like to sit on dead animal skin. Alcantara is so much better - it looks, feels, grips and wears better (at least where there is no constant direct human skin contact).

We have it as standard when you opt for M-package. It looks good and feels good. Sad to hear its not available with you guys.

I've never had a car with alcantara and was wondering how easy it is to clean if a kid spills coke or juice on it or can you get it equipped with the likes of scotchguard?

It looks lovely but is hell to maintain. It wears pretty fast, particularly on the steering wheel..

What a bummer! The alcantara surfaces in A4 put the interior over the top. Standard leather seems sorta cheap in comparison. They stay cool in the summer and I've yet to encounter any kind of maintenance issues. My dog ran mud all over the seats one time and they cleaned up just fine. But alcantara on your steering wheel… seems like a bad idea.

It's a huge loss that BMW didn't bring this look to the states. It's pretty amazing.

Klier - is the M Sport package the same cost in NL as it is here in the states (About $3,500)?

It's far more expensive over here (around 4500 euro, little over $6000). And you do get Alcantara, but in combination with cloth seats only. I'd like to see Alcantara/leather combo, or at least the areas on the doors covered with either leather or Alcantara. Door panels with cloth on it look super cheap.

Alcantara is crap with stains. Go leather, as it ages way, way better…

Yea bad for steering cause it get dirty from constant touching, but great for seats cause it doesn't wear out like leather.

Don't know about stains, don't allow food or drinks in my cars and my dog is well trained :).

If you're all obsessed over the F30, just put a deposit down on the M3! Why are you wasting time with this trivial 328i, 335i, M Sport crap.....

:D ;)

It's not for me. I'm a commuting stiff so I need a camelion-type ride that can be half office, half sportscar.

I drove my buddy's E90 M3 around town like a reckless kid last week and loved every minute of it - but it's just not something I'd want to commute in long term. Gas, insurance, stiff suspension, hella rowdy… and fun. Just can't imagine doing the daily grind in it.

What are the benefits of such things... ?

Trust me I'm struggling to think of the benefits. o_O When young they keep you up at night then get up at the crack of dawn full of beans and think things will improve when older but it gets worse as they still keep you up at night waiting and worrying for them to come home and then you can't get them out of their f'ing bed for work, yet despite the fact they're earning the hand is always out looking more.

But I still wouldn't swap any of them.

Osna got me so inspired, I went to my local BMW dealer and paid straight up cash! No hassle, no haggling! Brand new!

You kill me B773ER!

I'm still out sniffing for lightly used E30/31s. What kills me are these people who somehow go through the trouble of ordering an M-Sport 3er but don't bother to get the lighting package! Un, be, livable.

1 - You're buying a $50k car. You've come this far, why skimp $1k on something so basic.
2 - BMW, are you SERIOUSLY still offering Xenons as a $1k add-on to the 328i? A Nissan Sentra comes with LED DRLs standard nowadays.

The difference between the F30 and the Sentra is the BMW will sell all day long regardless of the lights where as the Nissan needs every trick in the book to do the same.

Going old school aye? ;)

Who the heck knows what the F they were thinking!! Definitely not BMW enthusiasts because the angel eyes are a must. It is sad that BMW makes this an additional option when it's a signature design aspect of BMWs....but then again, they've even skimping on the kidney grille now. Soon enough you'll have to pay extra for a decal of the Hoffmeister Kink.

They must be the ultimate performance purists. Them lights ADD weight you know! They need the car to be as nimble as possible to navigate the Starbucks and Burger King drive-thrus!

Why don't you test drive a Sentra....
