Im sure if Alonso starts complaining publicly again, Ron will only agree to release the Spaniard of his contract if it's one of the GP2 series teams. :D

Apprently, the divorce between Alonso & McLaren will be announced tomorrow.

Decision on Alonso's future imminent

2008 solution proving a problem

An announcement was expected later Friday confirming that deposed world champion Fernando Alonso will leave McLaren, the Marca sports daily reported.

The 2005 and 2006 F1 champion has been involved in intense contract negotiations with the team over the last two days, but the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement for next season.

The 26-year-old Spaniard has had a controversial year with McLaren which has seen him at loggerheads with team chief Ron Dennis for much of the season and it had been widely expected he would move on.

His former employers at Renault have expressed their interest in taking him back, but Marca said Alonso might prefer to sign up for a smaller team with a view to eventually finding an opening at Ferrari.

Alonso saw his hopes of winning a hat-trick of world titles vanish in the final Grand Prix of the season in Brazil last month with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen snatching the prize away from him and team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

L'equipe annouced it as official guys.

McLaren's public announcement says "that it would be in the best interests of both parties to bring the relationship to an end". What exactly does that mean?

It doesn't say that they've released him from his contract. Does anyone know if they've tied his hands at all? Most rumors were talking about McLaren wouldn't allow him to go to another manufacturer based team and this statement doesn't really clear that up.

McLaren statement in full
Friday 2nd November 2007

McLaren have just confirmed the departure of Fernando Alonso in a press release. Here's their statement in full:

'Following a meeting between Fernando Alonso and McLaren, it was agreed that it would be in the best interests of both parties to bring the relationship to an end.

'The mutual parting of ways has not been discussed until now, since it was felt that any such discussion could have seriously disrupted the team's and Fernando's 2007 Formula 1 World Championship challenge. Both parties believe that this was the right decision.

FERNANDO ALONSO:

"Since I was a boy I had always wanted to drive for McLaren, but sometimes in life things do not work out. I continue to believe that McLaren is a great team. Yes, we have had our ups and downs during the season, which has made it extra-challenging for all of us, and it is not a secret that I never really felt at home. I know there have been suggestions of favouritism within the team and people say a lot of things in the heat of battle, but in the end I was always provided with an equal opportunity to win. Today's decision allows all of us to focus on 2008, and I wish the team, Vodafone, Banco Santander, Mutua Madrileña and all the other team Partners who I have worked closely with during the year, the best for the future."

RON DENNIS:

"Everybody at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, especially McLaren's Spanish Partners Banco Santander and Mutua Madrileña and the team's title partner Vodafone, want to wish Fernando all the best for the future. He is a great driver but for some reason the combination of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Fernando has not really worked out, and in the end we reached a stage where none of us could find a way to move forward. We all believe that our joint decision to part company is for the best, and we will now continue to focus on our 2008 World Championship challenge."

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will announce any additions to its existing driver line-up in due course.'

So basically he can go, but the sponsors he's brought to McLaren, namely Vodafone, Santander, MM will stay at least for a while.
No problem as a switch to say ... Renault will most likely bring back Telefonica, Sadoz and will rejoined with Guru.
I have to say I would have loved to see Vodafone, Santander, MM saying they're dumping McLaren, but you can't have it all.

Apparently Glock already signed with Toyota, there are only few details to look for with CRB and so BMW to close the deal. Potential future BMW 3rd drivers are: Nico Hulkenberg, Christian Vietoris, Adam Caroll and Marko Asmer. I hope hulkenberg will be choosed.

HEAD'S SCHUMI CLAIMS 'ABSURD'

Michael Schumacher's manager has rubbished suggestions of the German joining McLaren, saying they are "absurd" and "wrong."

With McLaren reportedly looking at Williams driver Nico Rosberg to replace Fernando Alonso, Williams' co-owner Patrick Head has put forward the idea that maybe McLaren should instead sign Schumacher.

"Ron Dennis has proved to be a lateral thinker, which is why I am musing over the idea that he might look to Schumacher," Head said.

"Michael's still fit - and probably bored. I suspect he has found sitting on the pit wall dull."

However, the seven-time world champion's manager Willi Weber has rubbished his suggestion.

"This is absolutely absurd and wrong," he told the German told the news agency sid.

"Michael has a contract with Ferrari and is doing a job that he likes. Ferrari is our partner for the coming years.

"And if he really feels the itch (to race) again, which looks pretty unlikely, then Ferrari will be his only choice."

Meanwhile, Schumacher is set to test Ferrari's title-winning 2007 at Barcelona next week as he helps the team adapt to the traction control ban.

However, the German's spokeswoman has been quick to stress that Schumi's test does not mean he intends returning to racing.

"It's probably a one-off. Michael does not intend at all to go back to F1," his spokeswoman told the BBC.

"He's testing just as part of his contract, which is to help Ferrari in whichever area he can.

"He is much more experienced than the other drivers in cars without electronic aids, this will be good input for Ferrari.

Spanish 'super-fund' to woo Alonso
Big sponsors keen to be associated
06/11/07 09:32

Renault has pooled an incredible (US) $90 million to try to woo Fernando Alonso back to the French team in 2008 and 2009, according to reports.

The Spanish newspaper Diario As also claims that Flavio Briatore, who is still waiting to hear from his former protégé about the offer, has convinced one of McLaren's sponsors to re-defect to Renault next year if Alonso also returns to the team.

As said Movistar, a Spanish mobile brand owned by Telefonica, and BBVA, a Spanish banking group, are eager to be associated with Alonso's second Renault tenure, following a meeting in Madrid on Monday.

Insurance firm Mutua Madrilena, meanwhile, wants to switch back to Renault with Alonso, but is understood to be under binding contract to McLaren for 2008. Ron Dennis said recently that none of his team's sponsors are contractually linked with specific drivers.

The three major Spanish sponsors' super-fund to woo Alonso, however, could cost Renault its title sponsor ING, due to the clash with banking rival BBVA, As added.

It is also claimed that even if Alonso does not meet Briatore's Tuesday deadline, it does not mean that he ultimately will not return to Renault next season.

Furthermore, if the Spaniard does choose against Renault, the Spanish super-fund sponsors may simply follow Alonso to his definitive 2008 team, such as Toyota.

Red Bull, however, would be unlikely to receive the backing, due to the Austrian squad's reluctance to sell the advertising space.

^ I'm not placing any faith in news papers like Diario As, but 2 things due make sense.

1] Renault wanting him back.
2] MM leaving McLaren to follow Alonso as soon as possible, witch myself I predicted.

Don't ask me why but I'd like to see Alonso at either Williams or Toyota.
