Pictures Etihad Unveils A380 Apartment/787-9 First Suites

Singapore Airlines Suites
Singapore to London Heathrow

This is a "class above" First Class according to Singapore Airlines. You cannot get into the Suites on a First Class ticket and have to pay a supplement. Individual cabins which house two for dining

On my flight there was just one other person in the cabin, so the crew made up my bed in a separate cabin

I gotta say all of them look extremely premium, apart form the Air France one. Cathay, Swiss and Nippon look the best to me, though. British has lots of blue in its color scheme, makes it look very calming.

However, the good service consists of other things, so I have to ask:
1. Which airline offers the best food? (best being the freshest and well-made)
2. Which is the quietest plane? (making you less tired on long haul flights)

And, I have one question that will probably sound stupid, but... Are you supposed to keep amenities (such as PJs, slippers and others), or return them back?

EDIT: Is the Lufthansa lounge in your pics the same as the one featured at the beginning of this video?

Gotta say that the swiss is the most classy..

Yes, I have to agree. I don't like Emirates and it's "bling" image.

Air France is probably the worst First Class I've ever experienced. The food. The service. Terrible. You generally get completely ignored once they've done the bare minimum.

The ambience of the BA First is very nice. They just cram too many seats in the nose of the 747-400. The Triple 7 is much better.

Cathay is probably my favourite airline for First Class.

Best food? Cathay, Swiss and All Nippon seem to stick in my mind the most when it comes to food.

Quietest plane? That's the A380 without a doubt. On the upper deck the engines are barely audible. That's the same for all airlines that operate it, so it isn't unique to any one airline. The 787 Dreamliner is also very nice and probably as quiet as the A380, but there is no upper deck so it always has a little noise. The 787 DOES have very large windows which is appreciated very much by me.

I always keep the amenities such as the PJs and slippers and that is welcomed by the airline.

The Lufthansa lounge IS the one in that video, yes.

Great pics, thank you for sharing. Overall, based on photos alone I think I like CX and BA's first the best. The color choices are warm. The EX first class, gotta give props for the innovation, but to my eye it already looks a bit dated. Maybe it's a hit for some but I think other carriers have shown you don't have to trim everything in gold to have a lux product. just my .02

The all look pretty much the same to me, Emirates looks pretty tacky with the gold plate. Sweety Bollocks must have a pretty impressive job to allow him first class travel, I only get business class if the flight is over 8 hours :(

Another question: how do you shower on the A380? Do you request it or is there a list?

It's only for First Class passengers and that means there is a maximum of eight people between the two showers. There is a crew member on board whose job it is to purely look after the showers, such as keep them clean and take the reservations. At the start of the flight they come around the cabin asking what time you would like to use the shower, and then he/she allocates you your slot. Generally you get the slot you want. Although there are two showers on board (at the front of the upper deck on either side of the staircase, which is space that would normally go unused as you can't put seats in there), it's also where the First Class toilets are, in which case the crew member won't allocate both showers to be used at the same time as it would mean there are no toilets available for long periods of time.

In the shower there is a seat with a seat belt in case of unexpected turbulence, and even a TV screen showing you where in the World you are. Your allocated time in the bathroom is 25 minutes and that includes 5 mins worth of water in the shower, which is actually more than enough.

I found the shower really good and not a gimmick at all. It was great feeling refreshed just before stepping off the aircraft.

I don't travel for my employer. This is all my own leisure travel. Nor do I get free flights for being an air traffic controller.

I kick myself for every year of so, I was accepted into an Air Traffic Controller training program in Christchurch about 20 years ago but decided to go travelling instead. It's one of my few regrets.

That would be NATS then? They're still training in Christchurch I believe.

I wouldn't change my job for anything, except maybe F1 driver or somebody who measures student nurses up for their uniforms, which is an ACTUAL job as I've met a girl who does that, travelling the length of the UK too.

I think it was Airways NZ back when I applied, the training centre was in Christchurch.

Measuring up student nurses would be fun, apart from the fat or the ugly ones.

Complete and utter nonsense. Do some research.

Getting back to this topic. Here's a great article about Etihads financing from the Sydney Morning Herald.

Hoigan said

"We are a government-owned carrier but we have been established and have to run as a commercial business. We get no state-funded handouts," he said at Washington's International Aviation Club in 2009.

which is complete BS when this is taken into account.

The state-owned airline had access to a secret, interest-free $US3 billion ($3.3 billion) loan from the Abu Dhabi ruling family that required no repayments until 2027, according to documents prepared for prospective financiers.

and

A review prepared by management consultants Booz & Co in 2010, which was presented to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, shows Etihad used special deductions to post its first profit, of $US14 million, in February 2012.
The review was shared among the Prince's executive council of advisers

^ And other carriers don't receive state hand outs? Pretty much every European carrier at some point would have gone bankrupt if the government hadn't bailed them out. Air France, Alitalia, BA in the early 80's. BA and Air France received their Concordes for the princely sum of £1 each. Alitalia has made a profit in only something like two years since it's existed. What about U.S. carriers? Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection? How is that any different from getting interest free loans?
