Epic battle: Carmagazine goes to N-ring with Nissan GTR and Porsche 997 GT3

What I do find irritating is where did all this collective cynicism go when Porsche/Walter Rhorl claims numbers for their cars? I don't remember anyone saying, "oh, Porsche must be using a ringer to set those times".

Well, most people does not care about manufacturer claims. That could be one reason. No fuzz. When Nissan posted that yet-to-be-reporduced time for the GT-R, suddenly, every believer thaught it was the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help me god. You never get those reactions on times claimed by German manufacturers. That is why some would like these bold claims to be confirmed. So, the collective cynicism is there allright. We are all just waiting for a comparable time for the GT-R. We all know it is fast, we just want to know how fast it is compared to other cars. Then the praise can begin.

I can understand the fascination of manufacturer times, the heroic effort and the feelgood. But I like to have a more sober view, at least when it comes to look at a result other than in isolation.

I try to keep an open mind and I was very pleased to hear when Nissan got their new GT-R on the road. The R34 is one of my favourite cars ever and I don't care that Nissan claimed silly, unrepeatable times for the R32. The Skyline GT-R are great cars, but the extremists often think it is godsent.

Up to 150, there is hardly anything between them, but after that I think Z06 is faster - though both accelerate really slow after that.
Compared to the Turbo :D :usa7uh:

Please stop your bias and just admit that Nissan did the time without bringing in retarded conspiracy theories. :usa7uh:

Dont be redicolous, Ive been using Sportauto as a source for many years and I have always been against factory times and it will remain so. Im not going to change my mind even if BMW manage to make a super low time one day.
I never said Nissan did not manage to do 7.26 min.
Im saying this again, for the 10th times. For a comparison with other cars, the time is useless. Is it really hard to understand.

so dont accuse me of being bias, nothing to do with it. BMW,mercedes, porsche, nissan, if its factory times, tell your friends about it but to me its pointless. Im not changing my mind about this issue.

Im suprised so many people suddenly use factory times, thats never been a issue as long I've been visiting carboards and thats been for many years now. I find the sudden change amusing.

Well, most people does not care about manufacturer claims. .

Exactly, its been like this for many years for me now. Im not changing my opinion, its the same opinion I have had for 10 years now.
Some members here seem to think Im against factory times becuase its a time set by a japanse carmakers, thats is retarded accusation.

Doesnt matter if its german, japanese or swedish car, my opinion remain the same. For a comparison with other cars, there is only one source for me.

I hope people can understand my opinion through their head without accusing my of silly excuses.

When Nissan posted that yet-to-be-reporduced time for the GT-R, suddenly, every believer thaught it was the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help me god.
And when Nissan posted the 7:38 time, people (some on this very forum) were quick to call cheating. They cited HvS's fahrberichte, where he said a time under 7:40 was optimistic, that 7:50 was the car's true capability. Well, apparently HvS has set a 7:38 in the supertest of the GT-R. Not only does this match to the very second Nissan's first published time for the GT-R, it undercuts many vehicles with vastly better on-paper specs (if you are only looking at 2 specs, that is).

Autozeitung shows the GT-R faster around the Contidrom than the latest GT3. 1:36.1 vs 1:36.8. And that is with Kurt Thiim who has tested rear-engine Porsches before (and raced one in a 24Hr event). So why wouldn't it be faster around the 'Ring than a GT3?

As far as I know Sportauto did 7.50 min with the GTR on a damp track. If HvS did 7.38 min with the GTR in Sportauto supertest, then its alright with me. :usa7uh:

EDIT: Apparently HvS told a guy who went to "N-ring track education"
and he told the guy he done 7.38 min with the GTR and 8.25 min with the new Ford Focus RS. Lets see if its true.
